Default How-To: Install Solid LCA Bushings

i used the Energy suspension lower control arm bushings that i purchased from jegs... seen here:

Energy Suspension LCA Bushings

i went into this "blindly" and just did it ... honestly, i thought it was going to be much harder than it was .... i'd say on a scale of how hard this is to do i'd give it a 2 out of 10 ... only thing that is even close to "hard" is having the patience to allow the fire/flames to melt off the stock bushings, besides that it's just simple stuff

Tools needed:

Sockets
Torch
Hammer
Flat head screw driver or something to use to pop out the "insert" in the vertical bushing
Patience

step 1:

Jack up the car & use jack stands. Then remove the wheels.

Step 2:

Remove the bolt that holds in the VERTICAL BUSHING using a 15/16" socket

Step 3:

Remove the bolt that holds in the HORIZONTAL BUSHING using a 21mm socket

Step 4:

Remove the bolt & nut for the ball joint (where it connects to the knuckle) using an 18mm socket for the nut and a 15mm on the bolt. After removing this bolt the LCA will no longer be bolted to the car and should be removed.

Step 5:

Using a hammer, gentily hit the VERTICAL bushing out of the LCA.

Step 6:

Using a torch, light the VERTICAL bushing on fire. Mine took about 10 minutes of being in flames to remove ALL of the rubber from the metal "insert"

Step 7:

Using a torch, heat up the HORIZONTAL bushing. Then using a hammer and a small socket or screw driver, gentily bang out the metal "insert" from the bushing. Then the actual bushing should push right out of the LCA.

Step 8:

Grease the inside and the outside of the (2) halves of the HORIZONTAL bushing. Then install the (2) peices into the LCA. Now, install the metal "insert" into the bushings.

Step 9:

Grease the inside and outside of the (3) peices that make the VERTICAL bushing. Slide the metal "insert" into the largest of the 3 peices, so that the top of the insert is flush with the bushing. Then install teh smallest of the the peices onto that "insert". Now slide what you have just put together, into the LCA so that the bushing pops in & fits snug (there's no way to put it upside down, it only fits right one way). Now take the last peice out of the 3 and pop that into the LCA, completing the VERTICAL bushing.

Step 10:

Install the LCA back into postion on the car. The vertical bushing is going to want to pop out of place, install that portion of the LCA first to insure that it doesn't pop-out/fall-apart.

Step 11:

Re-install the VERTICAL bushing bolt using a 15/16" socket.

Step 12:

Re-install the HORIZONTAL bushing bolt using a 21mm socket.

Step 13:

Re-install the nut & bolt that holds the ball join to the knuckle, using an 18mm socket for the nut and a 15mm on the bolt.

**PASSENGER SIDE requires that you remove the motor mount in order to access the HORIZONTAL bushing bolt**

- remove the 2 bolts that hold the bracket to the motor mount bolt

- remove the motor mount bolt that's located behind that bracket

- remove the motor mount bolt that bolts to the motor

- reverse steps for install

honestly, that's what i was thinking when i was putting it in, but the bushing wouldn't fit in the LCA right if i did it the other way ...... it didn't push together bc the LCA hole for the bushing is larger on one side than it is the other... the way i did it it fit perfectly

if i have to i'll just re-do it again and take more pics but i dont see how it'd fit the other way ... it just wouldn't go back together

Yes you have them in backwards. Even the instructions for ES shows them the opposite of what you have in that pic.
