HOW-TO: Install SAFC 2/SAFC NEO/MSD Tach Driver

Just to let everyone know THAT I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR RESULTS AND YOUR ABILITY.

Ok, so awhile ago we put a safc 2 in going by the forums instructions and the car ran horrible. So my buddy came over with different instructions and they work perfect.

Things needed and optional:
1. Wire cutters
2. zip ties (optional)
3. 16 or 18 gauge wire
4. Electrical tape or heat wrap
5. solder for electrical use and solder iron
6. Hanger to push the wires through

Disconnect the negative side battery.

Getting started:
1. First thing I did was extend the wires out from the afc. Now to figure how much wire you will need will depend on where you place the afc. I used 7-8 feet but I did not have the second harness with the wire extensions.
*** I solder the 3 wires together at the same time. EX: Black/Brown/extension wire all together.***
2. These are the wires I extended out:
A. Take the black and brown wires from the afc and solder them together then use electrical tape or heat shrink.
B. Take the white and grey wires from the afc and solder them together then use tape or heat shrink.
C. Now extend out the 4 you combined into 2 and the following colors as well.
D. Green
E. Red
F. Yellow
G. I then took elec. Tape and wrapped up all exposed wires and leave about a foot exposed from the end. You can wrap all the way if you want but you will be spending more time unwrapping all the tape you used because the wires will be separated later after the firewall. I did this for 2 reasons. 1. to protect them and 2. it’s easier to get through the firewall.
H. Once you have extended the wires out to the length you think is good mark each end of those wires so when you pull them through the firewall you know what is what.
I. Make sure the wires are zip tied out of the way by your feet

Time to wire:
1. Pull the wires through and take some time here if you want to hide the wires as much as possible going to the pcm. The green wire from the afc will go to the MSD Tach driver so keep that in mind. You will not need to extend this wire all the way to the pcm.
2. Find a good place to mount the Tach Driver. I put mine in front of the battery tray.
3. Take off the plugs to the pcm and work them up and around the upper pipe to give you a better angle.
4. Find the Black pcm plug.
5. Remove the tape and peel away the plastic loom around the wires.
6. Find the black wire with tan stripe. Take the black and brown wire you soldered together from the afc and splice into that. Solder and use heat shrink or tape.
7. Now locate dark blue wire with a red stripe and splice in the red wire from the afc.

Find the orange pcm plug:
1. Find the dark green wire with red stripe and cut this instead of splicing into.
2. Take the yellow wire from the afc and connect it to the end of the wire going to the pcm.
3. Take the white and grey wire from the afc that you soldered together and connect to the other end.

MSD Tach Driver
1. The black wire is a ground. So I put a eye connector and put it on the negative side battery. Of course when you are finished.
2. Take the green wire from the afc and connect it to the grey wire from the tach driver
3. Remove the plug from the coil pack and feed it down between the engine and oil line to the turbo so you see it by the battery tray.
4. Peel away or cut the fiber covering the wires and make sure you connect the wires as close to the tach driver as possible. In other words connect away from the coil pack.
5. Find the green wire with orange stripe from the coil and cut it. Again AWAY from the coil.
6. Take the red wire with green stripe from the tach driver and solder into the end going to the coil.
7. Take the red wire from the tach driver to the other end.
8. Tape up and do your thing to hide as much as possible
9. Put the negative side to the battery with the ground from the tach driver and tighten down.

REMEMBER TO HEAT SHRINK IF YOU CAN ALL CONNECTIONS OR USE ELECTRICAL TAPE.

Thanks for this... Can you put up a couple pics of the Tach Driver? I kinda want to see how it is wired. I think I got it, but it would be easier with pics. If not, thats cool. Thanks.

Cool thanks man.... I actually don't have a wideband yet, so I was going to just get it hooked up and not mess with it till I can get one.

You can still hook everything up like I said before and put the settings to 0. That way you're not messing with the fuel at all. It will be the same as not having it wired. Then when you get your wideband you can mess with the fuel trims.
