Default How-To: Install MPX 3" O2 Housing

This is the HOW:TO on a MPx 3" o2 housing. im not garunteeing the other o2 housing installs are the same seeing as some come with bracketing on them.

ne way.

1) Drop the stock/catback exhaust. this is self explainitory if u need a how:to on this stop right now!

2) There are four bolts that hold the down pipe to the o2 housing. undo those 4 bolts and the O2 sensor on the down pipe.

3) Undo the o2 sensor on the o2 housing

4) There are 2 brackets u have to undo. the bottom one hooks one stud to stock o2 housing and 2 bolts to the block. undo this one first.

now to undo the other bracket there is a 10mm bolt that is in the middle undo that now. now there are 2 bolts on this bracket. both have welded nuts on them. undo those 2 bolts ( you will need a rachet wrench hence a socket wont fit unless you undo the coolaint lines)

5) Undo all the lower and upper heat shield bolts. Pull off both heat shields. This part is simple. Now u should be able to drop the Heatshield a little bit. honestly if you do not need this shield u can either rip it out or drop it down and work from the top of the car.

6) there are 4 bolts holding the o2 housing to the turbo u can either undo those by rachet wrench from the top ( if u leave the heat shield u have to do it this way) or u can get like 2 foot in extensions and undo them from under the car.( this is if u ripped the heat shield out like i did )

7) once all the bolts are out it will come right down. then take the new 3" o2 housing and hold it up there and put the bolts in. ( helps to have a 2nd person to hold it up)

8) after u are sure those are completely tightened u can put the 2nd bracket u took out back in. ( on the mpx u dont need the 1st one but on some brands u do). after the 2nd one is completely back in u are set hook ur o2 housing o2 sensor back in and that part is complete. just bolt the downpipe and catback up. now with the stock o2 housing u have studs that the 3" does not have u can either buy new bolts and lock things so that u dont have to wrench and socket at same time or most downpipes come with bolts for here that u have to wrench and socket.

9) (THIS IS OPTIONAL) put the upper heat shield back on. the bottom heat shield will not fit unless u cut it up some. and the lower heat shield has to be installed after cutting before the brackets that hold the turbo up on the block. honestly the srt-4 comes with the ram air hood for the turbo and without the heat shield that function is being used much better and keeps the turbo cooler. many of use do not even use the heat shields!

thats the complete how:to im sorry for no pics i was just trying to get mine done and didnt take pics like a jackass.

Also i forgot to mention this but mise way cause if i dont some one wont do it. make sure to put the gaskets inbetween the turbo and 3" 02 housing cause the stock one is machined flat and the 3" is not! and put the gasket between the 3" o2 housing and the downpipe.

10) Drive car around for a while, or a few days then go back and retighten all bolts from the o2 housing to the tips if u got a full exhaust!

let me add this, ive been having problems with the mpx o2 housin commin unbolted from the mani. it seems to unscrew itself, so i recommend getting it tach welded in certain spots around it so it wont do this. and only do it enough so that it will hold but when u want to change out ur exhaust all u have to do is take a hammer and chizzel, and tap real litely.

Some of the other 3" o2 housings come with a welded on bracket that will utilize the other bracket. That's what they are referring to!! You can go to ebay and search the 3" o2 housing and you will see what they're talking about!!

It looks like you can remove the two brackets in the bottom and it will come out. I'm in the process of doing this right now. But I'm thinking about cutting mine too!

I just did this today, with the MPx housing, I got it all put back. thought i was done and was cleaning up to find i forgot to put the 2nd Turbo to block support back up. i was out of time for the night, so im going to get back at it tomorrow morning and rip the new DP back off to get it up there. Oh and i also noticed when i had the stock O2 housing off, the inside of my mani is cracked in two spots FIt im running it til it gives me problems. I dont have the $ or time to replace right now. P.S that heat sheild was a Biatch for sure, tried my best to get it out nice and neat then said F that and cut the hell out of it. lol

Just finished mine. What a pain in the ass project. I cut my heatshield to pieces. But once you get those brackets and heatshield off, it's not that hard of a job. I'm just glad I'm done and now have a full 3" dump from the turbo back.
