Default How-To: 2.5" Coldside Pipe < $10

so this is my first "how to:" i dont remember seeing another thread on this so here it goes...

First of all... this is going to take your stock IC pipe and mod it so you get better airflow if you've seen the stock IC pipe you'll notice the plastic middle the looks very restrictive and is... I take no responsibility if you mess up a part(s) or your car. ok so understand that once you mod the stock pipe you need A) complete the mod (Especially if this is a daily driver.), or B) buy a replacement.

Parts Needed:
-Stock IC pipe (Coldside)
-a 2.5" exhaust Pipe (From Autozone)
-4 clamps
-3/16 drillbit to get started
-unibit
-HackSaw or your tool of choice(i did mine late nite so i had no other way but by MAN power to cut the pipe.)
-Flathead screwdriver

Ok so to start off measure out the new mid pipe BUT do not cut it yet! i measured mine to about 5 3/4"

Next drill the hole for the sensor. Starting with the 3/16" drillbit to start the hole.

After you finish with the first bit move to the unibit and widen the hole to about 11/16" any bigger and you'll have a problem with the sensor popping out at higher boost levels. i mad the sensor hole 3/4" and the sensor popped out so watch out for that luckily there's enough pipe for two trys!

Ok, after you have the hole for the sensor situated your free to cut the pipe!

after cutting the pipe pull out your stock IC pipe and Hack off the rubber hoses on the ends of the plastic center remember this is where it kinda gets tricky cuz if you cut the hose wrong or whatever then it most likely wont work and you'll have to buy a new IC hose anyways SO try not to mess it up! its really actually super simple but when you dont have the money to replace it and your doing a cheap effective mod for under $10 ITS IMPORTANT to be precise!

After cutting the rubber hoses off the stock IC pipe fit them to your new center and use 2 clamps to hold the new center.

Next, take the rubber peice where the sensor was on the old center pipe and reuse it to hold the sensor on the new pipe. Again its important that you didnt drill to large of a hole so the sensor doesnt pop out at high boost!

After you've got the hoses reconnected to the new center and you've got what looks like a IC pipe, go reconnect it on the car.

I started to put the bottom hose first then the the top.

Make sure that you tightened all the clamps that way you dont have a slip.
and replace all the sensor(s) or parts you've moved.

Enjoy!

I honestly cant say i felt a huge difference doing this but i kno it helps or why would we waste our money on aftermarket products that look or do the same thing! =]

but this is for those of US on a budget that want a Bang for our Buck!

HAPPY BOOSTING!!!!!!!!

yea i kno for sure its leaking but only cuz the rubber seal holding the sensor is floppy in the hole i drilled, i went alittle too big, but other than that i think some apoxy glue should fix that.... unless anyone thinks otherwise why it wouldnt be a good idea?

ya i would use some black rtv and put a heat gun to it. push it down as smooth as possible and then apply another layer to the edge around that and you should be good i would think. maybe a layer on the inside wouldnt hurt?

Nice work as long as the sensor doesn't leak.

Deff a cheap way to get "hard pipes" but why bother?
Unless you plan on mounting a BOV flange to it? Now you have 4 possbile boost leak sites as oppose to 2 before you cut your stock rubber pipe. IMO

So you cut off a plastic part and replaced it with a metal piece for no real reason. The reason you buy hardpipes is for the silicone couplers that dont expand and contract and a blow off valve flange. This accomplished neither and made more potential boost leaks since there aren't bead rolled edges.
