Ok so took car (2004 Yellow SRT-4, 78000 miles, Mopar Stage I, Mopar BOV, Mopar STS, Mopar/Borla Exhaust) into dealer and they told me stock wastegate was bad and that you had to order turbo and wastegate together and that it was gonna be $1495 for the pair since they are sold only together. Is this true? If so, is this because the wastegate might be internal? If it is interanal is there not a way to replace without ordering together? Also, is the dealer full of shit. I was also told first that my rim was warped aftermarket 18", then I was told no that both drive axles were warped. Not going out or broken yes they said they were warped. They wanted $725 for a pair of drive axles. Listen honestly I have driven the HELL out of this car and put 78000 miles on it but serious warped drive axles and wastegate. Someone help...
wastegate can be bought seperately so go for the stage 2 waste gate or aftermarket, do you feel strong vibrations from the front end at speeds? And if you do infact have a bent rim, get rid of it as soon as possible!!! It will eat you wheel bearings alive in no time!!!!! I know from experience, it sucked bad!!
The wastegate actuator can be replaced, however the waste gate flapper is integrated into the manifold. PT performance sells a ported manifold and all you have to do is unbolt the turbo from the manifold which also includes the turbine housing and bolt it to the ported manifold. Then send the core to PTP if they will take it.
Ok so heres how it works at dealerships..the service writers can and may recommend a lot of expensive shit to you that you might not need because they work under commission and want to make the most money as possible. They will almost never give you the easiest or least expensive way out. Also, when techs are working under flat rate they want a job that pays a lot so they want a whole heaping work order if you know what im gettin at. On the other hand, some techs are lazy..for example you complain about a vibrating steering wheel so they replace the rim when in reality your hub is bent to fuck out of shape (from personal experience). I myself am a tech at a dodge dealership so I see this going on. Id say its time for an upgraded wastegate such as a AGP. And if they really think your turbo is shot for whatever reason (shaft play, loose/worn bearings, etc.) its time for an upgrade on that too Ive never seen an srt4 with this many miles nor heard of one with this many but in some cases its typical for a turbo to be worn out at this time...and i wouldnt doubt your wastegate...that stock spring can only take so much..especially if you drive the hell out of it like you say. Try to be more careful with your next set up. Watch out for compressor surge too.
i'm gonna post this here since you're talking about a stock WGA.
so, is the stock WGA adjustable? like my cousins wrx? i dont know, my '03 is stock. just the blow off plate and a short shifter is all thats been added.
also, i'm hearing air an air leak while driving holding the throttle in a steady position. sometimes its a steady leak, sometimes its on and off. doesnt happen everytime i drive, just occasionally. could this be from a worn WGA?
if this is posted in the wrong place, or if this issue has been resolved elsewhere, please excuse me
