Default I hear 17 lbs of boost on stock engines. Is it safe to spike higher and run at 17?

I am a proud new owner of an SRT4. I just installed a turbosmart mbc with my stock wastegate. It spikes solidly at 20 and runs strong at 16-17 lbs through full throttle. I have backed it off now but i am afraid of any kind of engine failure. Is there any kind of troubles I may run into with it spiking that high. BTW, the boost hits hard and fast with this mbc. Any ideas until i get my upgraded FI's and how many lbs can a stock engine handle?

stock engine can handle alot of boost...its all about detonation and fuel in your case...20psi and 17 hold is way to much in my opinion without some fuel mods...turn it down

As for the amount of boost a stock block can take I am hearing 22-24 lbs. Does that sound about right. I am planning on upgrading to 24 or 30 lb injectors, mopar bov conversion and air/fuel ratio gauge, msd igntion coil and wires, cold air intake and s2 jetchip, nuthin too extreme until my warranty is out. Any other suggestions on how high I can set my boost after mods? My mbc is rated up to 30, but I was thinkin around 20-22 with the new injectors and ignition.

well the stock turbo can only take like 24-25 before going to shit very quickly. then engine can take way more than that (with the right mods). with your current mods on your car i wouldnt be spiking over 17. all your doing is pulling timing cuz you arent getting the fuel. buy some fuel mods then turn it up. just because someone runs 21 psi doesnt mean anything. a car that is tuned and has the supporting mods for lets say 19 can be much faster. something to consider
