I had the same situation recently. I paid 96$ for the gauges and about 24$ for R134 and oil.
The shop wanted $160 to do mine, so i bought the tools and did it my self.

Seems kinda high, you should be able to find a shop (dealers included) who do "a/c services" (which includes pulling vacuum on your system to get rid of moisture, and charging your system) for 39.99-59.99 plus freon.
Agreed with bill2, The system will need evacuated and recharged, and run some pag oil through the system to get any debre out, Plus the freeon, We charge 1.25 an ounce for freeon, Don't recall what ours holds.
