Default dbb Big Turbo instructions are terrible!

OK. I appreciate the effort in putting these directions together and maybe I have been working too many long hours but I think they are terrible. Such lines as "Later you will hose clamp one the supplied water lines with the blue silicone hose to this and feed it into the 90 degree hard line into the turbo" make me feel like I am trying to put together an entertainment center from Wal Mart with rough English translations of Chinese. There is never any mention of when this later is as far as I can tell. On top of that from what I gathered out of that sentence is that the blue silicone hose goes from the brass nipple you thread into the drivers side coolant hole and attaches to the 90 degree hard line on the back of the turbo. Well...the directions say this is shipped over length and you will need to trim it. Mine comes up about 3 inches short of even being able to touch the end of that hard line let alone having to cut some off. That 90 degree hard line either has to be mashed up into the brake lines along the firewall or it has to hook over the top of them. The oil return line on the bottom barely reaches. The hard line that screws onto the front nipple had to be bent and crammed into the space back there to get the threads straight. Where the hell does the other end of that go by the way? The directions don't say. I mean I figure it goes into that hose left over underneath the cam sensor but the directions don't say so. Am I supposed to use the extra blue silicone hose I don't have to make that bend or use the black stock piece that's sitting there on the end of the factory hard line. MMMkay...the oil nipple on top of the turbo. Mine was pointing towards the firewall. If I try to screw the metal braided oil line onto that like it is, it cannot thread because it's crammed up against the firewall. The only option I see here is cocking it to the side and running the oil line over the hot ass exhaust wheel which requires loosening the oil fitting a 1/4 turn. Then you get underneath the car and realize the stretched oil return line is in the way of getting your hand up there to put the bung in the oil hole on the block. So you have to take that back off and then put it back on when once you have the oil line on. This reminds me of the manifold. I'd think it to be a good idea to mention that if you snug up the studs up top that you can't even get the nuts on the ones on the bottom. The manifold requires you to put the nut on the middle top stud first, very loosely, then do the outside ones and barely leave it hanging, go underneath and put the nuts on, then go back up top to snug them down and then back underneath. Coulda have saved 30-45 minutes had the directions said something about that.

I'm not even done yet so there is probably more. I need to figure out where to get a hose long enough to reach where the supplied one won't. I'm also concerened about this turbo clocking. My turbo seems to be pointed straight at the firewall. I looked at the bolts on the compressor side and they look im possible to get to with it installed. So if you have done a turbo before you are probably thinking this idiot just needs to clock the center housing and stop bitching. Why didn't I know that? BECAUSE ITS AT THE END OF THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCIONS! So after following all the numbered step by step instructions a noob learns that before installation you have to clock the turbo. Why is it even at the end? Obviously if you know to look for it back there you already know how to do it.

PS, even with it clocked that blue line barely reaches. If I go any further the oil drain will be more than 35 degrees off.

You guys are sick, twisted, and demented. I know you enjoy this.

It's been a while sense I've done one, but I thought they went really smoothly. I like the read all the directions first, this helps catch things that might come up. Like your clocking the turbo.

Yeah...before the Army I probably would have. Then they brainwashed me to follow directions and not ask why. Just do it. Funny because I had the same problem with getting on the group buy list. They said to wait til you got added before paying. So I did. Meanwhile people were paying and getting ahead of me without ever asking to be on the list.

I guess instead of instructions they should be called suggestions.

Dude at least you got your turbo. I paid them $2050 a month ago and still have to even get a tracking number. Sorry for the sucky instructions.

Thanks. It's on, all is good. I gotta reinstall my MAP sensor, battery, bolt that damn power steering cooler back up etc and then see if it runs. I did A LOT more than just the turbo install. The instructions aren't useless or anything. All the information you need is there. I just think it's not in very good order. If you follow it step by step you will end up doing several things over again. I'll definitely do a lot better next time. I learned a lot.

to be quite honest with you, i didnt even use the instructions very much. i needed them to find out things like how much of the IC pipe to cut and what lines were meant for which nipple, but other than that i basically just read them over once or twice and then attacked it. i think just getting busy on it is probably easier than trying to go step by step. also for the manifold bolting up part, you shouldnt have had to do it that way. i reached my arms down from the top and was able to get it bolted on pretty well. im glad you got it on and im sure everything will be fine maybe the least they can do is hook you up with a small discount on your next purchse or soemthing...

Nah, I wouldn't expect them to do that. Like I said, it could just be me. If I had done a turbo install before I probably would have done like you and just used the instructions for reference. I was just trying to not miss anything.

i thought the instructions were pretty helpfull. i got it on and running flawlessly. only thing i don't remember reading about is you have to mod your charge pipe. other than that, i too didn't really use the instructions.

agp still top notch!

Some big companies have technical writers and editors etc. Its hard to have all of the following:1. Great instructions2. Great products.3. Lookin sexy.Meeting some of the agp boys and going from your instructions issues I say they fall under #2 only.

Thanks for your feedback. They are the same instructions we've used for almost 5 years and I can't recall someone having as many problems with them as you have. I'm sorry.

They were scared to admit it! I will say the engineering in the kit made it a shit ton easier to uninstall today when I yanked the head back off the car. How do you guys feel about the AGP O2 housing supporting the full weight and torque of a Maxxfab side exit exhaust. Seems like a lot of weight on that exhaust wheel to me.

That is a lot of weight on it. You probably want to support your exhaust.

I'm kinda confused here. I mean, I can see HCCA's frustrations if he runs into hardship with the install, but I personally have done this and found it to be pretty straightforward as have many other users previous.

HCCAfan, out of curiosity, was most of your troubles caused because of the directions themselves, or because you were trying to interpret something that wasnt really there? I mean, the grammar may not be perfect if thats what youre getting at, but overall its all there...

and i dont know how come you said they didnt say anything about modifying the IC pipe, the instructions i got said it, thats why i did it...did you lose some pages or something?

as far as your exhaust goes, how was it supported before you did the install? if it worked then, then it should work now. if it wasnt supported properly before then yea you might have a problem, but it would be no different than any problem you might have had BEFORE the install...

just trying to be the voice of reason.

anyway, now that you got it installed, is everything good to go now?
