Default Check out this compressor wheel.

This is out of my Holset that was rebuilt by PTP about 1.5 months ago. Is this OK?

It's not the way I balance comp wheels, but I guess it works. I guess.

I only use flapper wheels so it gradually takes the material away. If I ever have to remove that much material, I will precision mill the wheel. I wouldn't use any sort of grinding stone on a compressor wheel.

so that is someone balancing a compressor, and not actually just taking a screwdriver blindfolded and having at it?

Yeah that was what I was thinking. It is deffinately some sort of grinder that was used to remove the material.

There are also some other marks where there was some material, it looks like little half moon shapes on the outside edge of the back side of the comp. wheel. Im thinking those are balancing marks as well.

Is the compressor wheel balanced by itself when you do a balance job?

Can you tell me the steps you take when you balance the shaft/wheels?

After some research it looks like the wheels are balanced individually. I will be taking everything to the turbo shop tomorrow for inspection and balancing. Hopefully the wheel is balanced. I guess that is one way to remove some material for balancing.
