Coming from Honda land, I can totally understand your wanting to "dummy" it down. There are many poeple that take off the SI, GSR, Type R exterior cues and put on the low model stuff just to simply avoid theft and vandelism.

The best response I ever got though....I put a Honda badge on the back of my Integra..since well everything else from the factory says Honda on the car....anyways this kid at college says "Hey thats a clean headlight conversion"....I'm like what?? He says "Ya this a Civic, right?"...."Umm no its an Integra"...."Oh I saw the Honda badge and thought it was a Civic"....

The people who are asking "why" have clearly never owned a sleeper...

Some people just forget where the srt-4 came from. If it wasnt for the people who modded the neons in the past, I dont think the srt-4 would be on the market. It just pisses me off when people bash on the neon, when an srt-4 is just neon with a more agressive look and 2.4 turbo.

Oh and if you want to swap to look like a regular neon, go to neons.org, im sure there are many people over there that will do the swap and even pay you on top.

for my project, im branching off of the srt to stock sxt conversion.
im taking my srt-4 and making it a "appearance modified sxt"
i dont have any pictures yet, but imagine this plastic surgerical attempt:
front:
1) sxt front bumper.
2) carbon fiber hood (to retain turbo cooling functionality)
3) carbon fiber (quarter circle) eyelids

side:
1) aftermarket 17" wheels

rear:
1) sxt spoiler
2) replace "SRT-4" trunk badge with "NEON" and a "SXT" underneath it
3) sxt rear bumper (i have the bdj dump...so i dont have to deal with rear tips)
4) sxt muffler and turn down tip mounted under bumper.
5) Mopar 3D taillights

i have 20% tints to help people from seeing the viper seats and boost gauge.
so now my srt-4 looks like a "ricey sxt"

many of you ask why not make it a stock looking sxt or better yet
why not leave the srt-4 alone?
- a better bait to lure in races from the "fast and furious" crowd
- losing to an sxt absolutely crushes an opponent's pride and ego way
worse than losing to an SRT-4
- my personality is all about function...not looks.
- i'm mean and have a horrible inferiority complex.
- i get tired of having/doing the same things very quickly.
- it costs little to nothing to trade local sxt parts.

i could get an sxt and put a turbo but then i'd deal with install cost, beefy transmission with limited slip, srt suspension components, boost gauge, you get the picture. so it's not for everyone. i don't expect anyone to like it or give me praise. people come from different backgrounds and like different things. i'll try to get pics sometime before the new year.

love this thread. I do not own an SRT-4 as I bought my 02 before they came out. I thought about trading it in but two reasons why I didn't. 1: My neon is almost paid for so didn't want more car payments.
2: have you seen the insurance for those things?
3: way more fun putting a Turbo on my SXT and cursing and blood and tears.
ok so that was three. I was going to put a body kit on it but after only doing some small mods to the car I was getting every rice boy and thre uncles trying to race me it got realy old after like the 40th one. I don't even want to think what it would be like if I had an SRT. Fact is I can and do once in a while if they realy piss me off hand there rears to them on a platter. Usualy only takes hitting the speed limit to beat them.
Going to try and retain stock trim as much as possible just going to make it look clean.
I mod the car because I like having a fast car. And like racing it at organized racing events not street racing.
I see all these cars that got the body kits and rice can mufflers. Here on Fort Drum there a fair number of neons with mods to them but none are even close to fast. You know what I laugh at them.
I never get a secand look from them untell they see me laughing at them and they look scarred all the sudden cause they wounder what I got they don't to make me laugh at them. Then they hear the car and then they realy look scared. I am all about sleepers.

sounds like a good idea, but sounds like a bitch to do.

I remember when the SRT-4 first came out I wanted to get a 1 gen neon and put the 2.4l turbo from an srt-4 in it..that would be a sleeper and it would be cheaper then converting a SRT-4 into a SXT. None the less that would be cool...and I would do it if I had 2 SRT-4s one to keep like a normal SRT-4 and one to look like an SXT. I would not make it look riced out...I would make it look like a real stock sxt and put a Enterprise sticker on it lol. Another cool mod is to silence the B.O.V. I heard a friend of mine talking about doing it on his CRX so I guess it can be done.

This is sharp, I have never liked the SRT spoiler anyway, but a R/T spoiler would be sweet.

I say do the sxt swap because that shit would be so funny. I could only see it now. I would feel like shit if I pulled up to an sxt and we raced and he left my ass in the past. Now I almost want to do it.
