First off, thank you very much for this idea! The timing of this thread was awesome since my maxxfabb side exit is in transit as I type this. Secondly, since everyone who has posted pics of this awesome mod is on the east coast, let me represent the west.
With this pic it actually looks really good but without the rear exhaust I wonder if its easy to see the suspension pieces underneath? Maybe you have to be really low from behind?
For those of you who decide to do this and keep the exhaust on, perhaps polishing the rear piping section might spice things up.

When I took that pic, the car was on level ground in the garage while I was squatting down on my sloped driveway. Then add this to the fact that I am lowered on Tein s-techs. So I would say you are correct on both counts in that w/the piping gone, the suspension would be visible, but you will definitely need to be VERY LOW to see it at least on mine.
man...I was gonna do this today, but its raining pretty hard, my car is in the garage on jack stands as I type this and I'm waiting on my damn swaybars!! somehow my packages got separated and I got my springs yesterday (installing next saturday, waited too long to make appointment) and my sways arent here yet!! grr, but while my car was up i threw on the lower mm insert so all was not lost, when this is done ill run to lowes and get some parts, but I dont think ill do this mod just yet, bad weather and timing, at least yall got some good pics, ill do it eventually depending on the exhaust I end up with. If you read this and are wondering why the crap I just wrote all that, I'm bored and bitter my parts arent here yet so I'm venting...damn fedex again, first my wheels, now this!
I imagine I'm not the only one that has done this but I haven't seen a pic before of anyone that has done it, so here are some pics. Just used the straps that hold the middle piece in place and pulled them up and held them in place. No cutting or anything was done. Looks so much better now,
It would look sweet if you could add some difussers right there. May want to get SuzyQ do a photocropp for you.
Calcu; Thanks for the idea and the photos. Just did mine, must have taken all of 20 minutes. All you need are two 1" long 5/16" bolts, four 5/16" (or 3/8") fender washers and two 5/16" nuts. The only tools needed are a screw driver to pry the push fasteners from the straps on the bumper cover and a couple of 1/2" wrenches to tighten the bolts. I had all the parts in my junk box and was amazed at how easy it was to roll the cover. Now my Exhaust Depot single 3" turboback doesn't require the fake outlet on the passenger side. it took me longer to remove the welded in fake outlet than it did to roll the bumper cover.
Must be an optical illusion but the car looks lower and wider from the rear now.
Calcu, post your paypal address. I'll be the first to send you $1 for the great idea. I think everyone that uses this idea should send a buck. You just saved everyone with a BDJ, side exit, or single back exhaust a great deal of effort and money. THANKS MAN!!!
Calcu was not the first to do this.

It's likely these guys were, they posted a couple weeks ago. One with a dump/side exit, and one with a Borla.
