If you are planning on going with silver don't do it... I wanted stripes really bad and eventually did them. They looked great and I talked them up to people all the time. After a year or two they started getting little spots on them and started to look like crap. Nothing will clean them, nothing will fix them. I am extremely anal about my car and always keep it looking good. Come to find out this is a very common problem with silver vinyl and I have seen this topic/problem on many forums on the internet. The vinyl supplier said they would replace them but they never did, not did they even respond to any PM's. If I had it to do over again they would be painted, or nothing at all.

IMO painted is the way to go. I was quoted at $750 for silver stripes painted onto the car directly. I guess vinyl would be OK if that's out of your price range, though.
