Default Painting Injector Cover

I want to paint the letters on my injector cover and hood insert to match the car. I heard of something you could spray on then cut out the letters peel it off the letters and then paint it. When you were done you peel off the rest of it and only the letters would be painted. If no one has heard of that. How do you guys do it. Thanks

I need to know this too. The other day i was trying to clean my engine and accidentally got some degreaser on the painted letters part and when i hosed the engine down the paint came right off.

you guys are thinking of the valve cover and painting it with high temp paint... you can put chapstick on the letters and then rub off once dry to have the numbers and letters exposed again... the guy above has it rite!

A finer grit will work best since all you want to do is scuff up the surface to get the paint to stick, anything higher than 180. Plastic is a much different surface (obviously) than metal. So all you want to do is just scuff it up a tiny bit to stick. It is not necessary to bake it at all. I painted mine again about a year ago and the paint is still sticking

Go to a hobby store & they have a mass assortment of paint markers. I used a silver one & painted in the lettering after I sprayed the cover. It works great!

well obviously you have your VC gasket, there are about 5 spots where you need to put some sort of silicone or gasket maker. not adhesive...there's a how-to thread about it on here...

I used tape. Some patience is required when cutting out the lettering, but in can be done, and done well if you take your time...

clean

prime

paint

mask

git 'er done

It looks kinda bronzey in the last pic because my house is yellow and the cover's reflecting it.

That looks great!

I painted my VC wih Dupli-color hi-temp gloss black. but I smoothed out the VC first with 80, 150, 220, 400 and then primered it, with a wet sand, then pain with a wet sand (2500, 4000) to get a glassy look. After I was finished I took a sanding block with 150 grit and knocked the gloss off the 2.4L Turbo Twin Cam lettering to give it a flat look.

I'll get some pics of it.

I also painted my injector cover lettering E-Blue to match the car, and it looks...ok not as good as yours tho... I may redo it following your pics.

What color is the base coat on that cover...looks like it's one of those hammered finishes.

Thanks!
