What's up guys and gals? I was just notified of a new assignment to Lakenheath. I was stationed at Spangdahlem 3 years ago. I was just reading up on shipping your car in to the UK and had a few questions. 1.) What is with the light conversion?? How much to perform on an 04? 2.) How difficult is the MOT inspection? (The car has a NeedsWingz Exhaust no Cat./ AEM Short Ram) 3.) Snow? How bad? Right now I am trying to decide on weather to bring the EVO or the SRT. The SRT is cheaper and not as heavily modded which equals reliability. But the EVO is soooooo much more FUN and AWD which would be safer in the snow/rain. Help me out please. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry man but haven't got any posts from GB guys for a verry long time.......
seems like they ran out of srt's there!
But from what i know England is just rainy, and not too much snow......
Holland is about the same and í also run my SRT here in the winter!
I lived over there with my car. The light conversion is easy enough to do yourself if you are handy with electronics. The MOT is a real bitch. If you dont have cats, don't expect to pass. There are some shady places that will pass you though. I was there for 2 years and saw maybe 6" of snow total
Nice! I am heading over there in Feb. I was wondering if I needed to get a set of snow tires. I guess I will hold off. I had my SRT with me in Germany and ran it through the winter so, I wasn't realy worried about that. I AM however worried about the MOT. Do you know of any tricks to getting the SRT's through? The inspection wasn't too bad in Germany.

I am currently stationed in RAFM and my light converstion cost me £60. My MOT cost me £40. Before leaving Nellis AFB, I had to get rid of my exhaust system and purchased one w/ a cat. converter. No worries about snow. What you should be worried about is black ice. I would bring the Evo.
^ That is a bit steep. I wonder why its so expensive. My insurance for both my Mini and the SRT is $130 a month. Anyway, either car will do in the UK. There are twisty roads in some parts of Suffolk county which will make the Evo a better car. Good luck with the decision.
Without a cat you might have problems with MOT. I would try the beer mod =) You cannot pass MOT without a cat unless your chummy chummy with the garage.
It snows maybe once a year here but the temp hovers near freezing a lot during the winter.
Light conversion... you will need a rear fog light, different sidelights (ones that protrude of the car), and the headlights need their direction changed.
your stock headlights have no direction, they are flat (symmetrical). European cars have asyymetrical headlights, on the right side it is higher than on the left.
But for the lhd cars in the UK it is opposit - left side is higher.
So for THAT cars you need a change.
And for the change they offer on ebay.uk or at the gasstations such stickers that you can put on the headlights...
