Default New Assignment

Well after a couple months of figuring that I would be heading back to the states after 2 years of isolation in the middle of the atlantic, I found out last week that I would be remaining overseas! My next assignment will be Chievres AB, Belgium.

I'm so relieved to stay overseas. I will be there in Sept, after my COT leave. Anyone been there or is there and is familiar with the area?

I stopped through there a few years ago. It doesn't seem too bad. It's a really small base.

Belgium is a fantastic country. I went to visit Seventhguest and go to his car show back in 2006 and ended up staying for 4 days after only planning on being there 2. Not too sure where the base is up there, but the city of Gent was absolutely amazing. The people are great too. We stopped in at a local bakery and asked the lady (kindly) if she spoke English. She looked at me and said "Do you think I'm stupid? Of course I speak English". I couldn't help but laugh at her. My wife didn't think it was nearly as funny. I'm sure you'll have a great time up there. I need one of those spiffy jobs that gets me stationed in all the cool places.

lol, I think I would have laughed too! I work aircraft maintenance but my first assignment before my current one was not nearly as glamorous in west Texas...

My assignment was diverted to good ol Ramstein! I was there last summer and had a good time so I'm not too disappointed. I know I saw a lot of Neons rolling around.

It's Belgium and you're in Europe. What else could you ask for! I just got here in England and I'm already nervous about going back to the US. It seems like everyone that I speak to has an assignment back home. I would like to go back to Korea so I can stay overseas.

After this assignment I think I am done. Its time to do something else after that. I just didn't want to finish out my 2nd enlistment back in the states.
