Belgium is a beautiful country. I only went to Ghent when I was up there. I'd suggest taking a trip out there if you could. Otherwise I don't believe any of us overseas guys are stationed up that far as we are mainly military and stuck down in Germany. Have fun!

I'll be working in Belgium next week in Cheviers. I've only been in that area twice, so no real advice on what to do. Working all day and drinking Belgium beer at night.

Haha not french fries but just Begium fries......

French fries are verry thin, Begian "Patat" on the other hand are verry thick fries, almost like Mcdonalds patatoes but still a bit different

Oh where Paris has the Eifeltower Brussels has the "Atomium"

And if u like Oldtimer cars, just behind the Atomium there is museum "Autoworld" with about 300 oldtimer cars from different brands.

Belgium is full of churches one of the famous ones in Brussels is "Basiliek van Koekelberg in Brussels"

For food in Brussels you can find the Quality restaurants around the "Grote Markt" (centre of the city) with a varyety of belgian inspired food, but also greek italian and fishrestaurants. But be prepared for steep prizes
In 2007 we ate in a real nice restaurant there its on the Edelknaap -straat 45B Restaurant, Brasserie La Quincaillerie | Contact & Plan d'accs | La Quincaillerie vous accueille pour tous vos repas d'affaires ou entre amis an old hardwarestore, really nice!

If your on a budget better find the street "Beurs" or Bourse there are some trendy eat-cafe's with small dishes..... for nice prices.

and if you want to try a beer, most cafee's over there have more then 100 different brands and types of beer, Belgium is famous about its beers

Have fun and if if something else pops my mind ill be sure to post it!

Holy shit Dutchie, thats a lot of good info right there! Thanks man, I will fly in on a sunday morning so i could spend the entire day messing around. Then i have to work all week in center Brussels. My work pays for everything up to a limit, i think they said it was 1800 Euro for the week. So that includes my plane ticket, hotel and food. Whats a good beer to try, knowing me i'll be standing there forever trying to look for a beer with a good looking label - lol.

Whaha belgian beers is all about personal preference....
there are the more brown beers and the far more lighter beers!

The last time i was there i had this list of some top beers:

1. Westvleteren 12
2. Delirium Tremens (from tap!!!!)
3. Affligem Tripel (from tap!!!)
4. Chimay Bleu
5. Delirium Nocturnum (from tap!!!)
6. Trappistes Rochefort 10
7. Achel Extra Bruin
8. Delirium Xmas (from tap!!!)
9. Westvleteren 8
10. St. Bernardus 12
11. Kwak
12. Deus
13. Orval

They won't have everything from that list, but my guess they will have atleast half from that list

Orval is a beer i liked back then but its quite heavy... Let me describe the taste. Orval is hop, hop and more hop. I love it. it has a first bitter flowery aroma and afterwards a long-lingering hop aftertaste. Amazing stuff.

Never did anything in Brussels (beside the airport and a wedding) Ghent is my place. Its only a 20 or so min drive from my Grandmothers place.

My Fav beers :

Chimay Bleu
Anything lindemans (Brouwerij Lindemans: kriek, lambik, streekbier, bier) Framboise and Kriek.
Any Witbier (hoegaarden is my choice, but can buy it in the states now)
Growing up I always drank Stella Artois, but now its all over the place here.

And Pat said to Rianan (hmm - hope i wrote her name right) "don't drink that Wiekse it tasts awfull" - and she was looking like "what the hell????" (cause she knew very well the german word but not that the name of the beer was meant).
