Where to find a writeup for installing Mopar ACR camber kit (the 1 w/ dogbones)
Is there a writeup somewhere for installing the Mopar camber kit for the ACR? Or should I just go to the dealer and get a printout of the procedure? I have no idea which holes to grind, how much, etc. Im not going to be doing it, but my favorite alignment shop will be. I thought I should have the specs ready for the guy when I go there Wednesday.
So to be 'official' you'll need the writeup from a dealership's system.
Here's the important part (and I'm leaving out all the 'take this apart' and 'remove these bolts' stuff. I mean come on, there's 4 of 'em):
5. Draw an imaginary line from the center of the clevis bracket upper bolt hole down through the center of the clevis bracket lower bolt hole (Clevis Bolt Hole Grinding Area (ACR)). Pivoting the line at the center of the lower hole, move the upper end of the line inward so as to follow an arc past the inner edge of the upper bolt hole approximately 3.0 mm (0.12 inch) (Clevis Bolt Hole Grinding Area (ACR)). Mark the bracket showing what area of the surface needs to be removed to form the elongated hole. Remember, this elongation must follow the arc.
Repeat this step on the opposite side of the clevis bracket.
6. Using an appropriate grinding tool, elongate the upper hole as indicated by themarkings until the necessary material is removed. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the clevis bracket.
5. Draw an imaginary line from the center of the elongated clevis bracket upper bolt hole down through the center of the clevis bracket lower bolt hole. Pivoting the line at the center of the elongated upper hole, measure outward at the lower bolt hole up to 4.0 mm past the edge of the original bolt hole (Strut Clevis Bracket Bolt Hole Grinding Area). To acquire negative camber, measure toward the outboard side of the strut from the center line. Mark the bracket showing what area of the surface needs to be removed to form the elongated hole. Remember, this elongation must follow the arc. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the
clevis bracket.
6. Using an appropriate grinding tool, elongate the lower bolt hole as identified until the necessary material is removed. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the clevis bracket.
The new bolts go back in with the threads/nut toward the FRONT of the car, and the dogbone washers on front side of the strut as well. Torque all 4 bolts to 60 ft-lbs + 90 degrees (another 1/4 turn)
Are the bolts right? I thought this was ordered as a kit (I got these from the previous owner, he never got around to installing them). Do you have a pic of the dogbone washer that will work?
Dominic, sorry I didn't get back to your email. This works just as well since all can see it anyway...
You can follow the procedure and get all confused or you can do it this way, it works just as well:
The first step is to grind the upper hole and see if you can get the -2.4. Obviously, you grind it inwards but you will find the spindle will bottom out against the strut at about -1.8 and well before you take the 3mm or so of bracket material out.
Next, leave a clevis bolt in the upper and remove the lower. Shift the spindle in the bracket with the upper bolt in the freshly ground hole and the spindle bottomed out against the strut body until a camber gauge reads -2.4. Lock that upper bolt tight so it holds the spindle in this position. You now know how much material to grind out of the lower hole. The amount is enough to install the lower bolt.
This may not make sense to you but it should to an alignment guy. All you're doing is grinding away enough material to reach -2.4 of camber.

Read the last two notes I left in the thread linked above. That will give you the details you are looking for. Let me know if you have any questions.
