Ok, so I'm making the trip to ATL for the Gummybear One Lap in 2 weeks.
I'm having a bit of trouble getting the hitch here, but that's a different story altogether.
I called the local UHaul location for one of their 'Sport' trailers (the tiny aero-pod like ones) as I've seen a few others with it and it seems to be exactly what I need for 2 people, baggage, parts and other racing related stuff.
Sadly, it seems this item is not available in my 'marketing region', however far that is. They won't even attempt to bring one in, or let me pick one up along the way. Anyone have any other suggestions about where I might find something similar?
I can't really afford to buy a trailer right now, but I might be convinced if it's the only option. This IS to be towed by the SRT4, so it does need to be small(ish), and lightweight.
You could buy a Harbor Freight 40x48 trailer (make sure you get the 12" wheels) for around $200. slap a half sheet of 5/8" plywood on it and then bolt some cheap lockable rubbermaid boxes from walmart on it. The benefit of this is you can leave one box on it and convert it to carry your wheels/tires and tools/jack/stands/etc to events. I just finished building one a few weeks ago and for ~$300 (plus tags/title) I have all of that done and can easily transport race rubber and tools to events without having to completely fill up the car with junk.

Reason: speeling
don't have any right now, but maybe this weekend. I used roll-on bed liner on the plywood and used some pipe and flanges to hold the tires (2 per pipe) with the box bolted on the back third of the trailer. Miata guys are the most common people doing things like this because they can't hold 4 tires in the car.
I have the trailer stowaway is talking about.
actually mine is a 48x96 folding trailer. bought it a couple years ago for $200 shipped from harbor freight. let's just say it has MORE than paid for itself in saved trailer/truck rental fees

yeah, that's it. Shouldn't take more than 3-4 hrs to put together with hand tools. If you have a 17mm open end wrench it'll go quicker because you can get that up in the frame rails to hold the nut while you tighten the bolt. an air ratchet would also save a ton of time. I bet I could do one in 2 hrs at most if I had those handy (a lot of my tools were at my old place at the time, and still are ).
reason I'm mentioning mine so much is it doesn't cost much more than the smaller version, tows just as easily, and quite frankly will be FAR more useful than the smaller one for other projects.
I brought home our jacuzzi tub on it, all the cabinetry for the garage and bathroom, loads of computer equipment to the recycler, my motorcycle to the repair shop when it had a flat, etc.
my next project is a dog house to cover our stuff for those god aweful trips to pittsburgh and a custom bike rack on top of that to take our bicycles with us.
