I'll be doing my 1st HPDE at Watkins Glen April 28th & 29th. Right now I have Hawk Blues for the front, and HPS for the rear. I've used them on a smaller scale track, only 1.5 miles, for some lapping days and they worked beautifully. Top speed was only about 110, but there were lots of 90-100 down to 50 braking. Wondering if I should go for something else for the rear? Either HP Plus or Hawk Blues.

How many of our country's problems could be solved – and solved quickly – if politicians were more worried about what is good for our country rather than how to protect their positions of power?
I used EBC Yellow Stuff pads fot the fronts and hps's for the rears 2 hpde's ago. The last one I attended, I installed yellowstuff pads on the rears also but it didnt help as much as I expected. it was noticeable, just not as much as I would have liked. If you want to stay low on the budget, I would go with yellowstuff pads or HP+'s for the rears.
my 1st time at the track I used HPS's front and rear. after the 1st session I was having to brake at the 6-700ft mark because of fade. with the yellowstuff pads I was able to consistantly brake at 4-450ft mark all day long. these baking zones were 115-120 down to 50ish I would guess, since I cant stare at the speedo while diving into turn one.

it depends on your tires you plan on using. i've never tried the blues, but i've tried ht-10, carbotech xp8 - and both have been able to take the heat fairly well (on street tires both times). there is enough time in between braking zones to have them cool down, but i would start with a fresh set of pads--ready to rock for two days. and a set of OE pads to drive home in!
some people like identical pads F&R so that the bias is predictable.
on a different note: i will be up there on the same days! i have an 04 e-blue and will look for you there. drop me a PM, i will be coming UP from westchester, ny area.
when is the event and what actually is it? is it just a chance to go all out around the track? my home town is close to Walkins glen and i might be able to stop up there

Cool, I'll be coming from Rochester though, but we can meet up there. Not exactly sure what the schedule is etc since I've never been to one but I'm sure there's some down time. I'll be using Falken Azenis RT615. I think I'm gonna go for the HP Plus, theyre only $60 and the last thing I want to have problems with is the brakes.
how have the XP8s treated you? I really like the idea of being able to put those pads on (or the XP10 later) and then switch to the AX6 for street use without having to bed in the pads or use different rotors.
Also, have you had any problems with the rear end being unstable under threshold braking from higher speeds with odd camber in the road?

i like the xp8s a lot: the pads can take a lot of heat, good initial bite, decent at street temps as well and relatively rotor friendly still-i recommend.
well any odd camber in the road will offset stability.
but in a straight line, level surface: the only issues i've ever had with in-stability was perhaps using a set of HP+ in the rear. i have a feeling the rears weren't up to temp, nor did they really ever get up to temp - the rear tires felt like they were chattering (110->35 situation). i'm no expert, but i'm thinking perhaps too aggressive a pad, not enough heat - they weren't working OPTIMally. the only thing I have in the rear is the mopar tension struts and running shaved street tires at the time. the suspension is stock so there is a lot of brake dive.
I use carbotech brakes on all 3 of my functional SRT-4s. the Xp10s are great for lapping days. the backings are huge so no bending ( had that problem with hps ) they are reasonably agressive good bite and work decently cold and awesomely hot. I run stock oem stock replacement ceramic pads on the rears. The car needs more brakes up front (IMHO) and the rears are fine. Depending on your driving style if you trailbrake at all having too much brake in the rear can get you into trouble. =]
