Well, as the title says i'm a newbie when it comes to the racing scene! I'm pretty well pumped about getting into autocross and road racing, but i'm at a complete and utter loss as to where I should start with the car.
I've know of a guy who happens to run a performance parts shop, so i've got access to discounted toys and help with installation: that's not an issue.
I just wanted to get some first hand sayso on where I should begin with the car. My thoughts were suspension + wheels and tires.
Don't upgrade anything yet. Go to the track or autocross course and run your car as is.
Then you will be able to better determine where your personal strengths and weaknesses are and pay accordingly to modify your car.

If your doin roadcourse, get track brake pads. At least Hawk HP+. You need better than stock for repeated stopping.
Outside of pads, I agree with these guys...seat time.

On another topic guys, I think we (guys with seat time) disappoint the newer racing crowds that come in asking about what to mod, when we say, "DON'T MOD ANYTHING GET MORE SEAT TIME"
Not specifically referring to the OP, but I think we do that a lot. I think new racers come in expecting a list to get 500WHP not realizing real racing is nothing like that.
If you can afford it, get another set of wheels with street tires on it. Start off with a cheapo street tire like the Falken Azenis Rt615. Other than a spare set of stock wheels, I wouldn't buy anything else.

except pads, or course. Super blue or equivilent brake fluid highly recommended as well!
better Brake pads EBC yellow stuff/ Hawk hp+, stock rotors
brake fluid flush. I like Motul
Mopar rear tension struts. This keeps the back end under better control while heavy braking at higher speeds.
