Help us help NASA SoCal! w/ $100 track day!

NASA SoCal chose to cancel the August event at Willow Springs because of really light attendance for the last 4 events. They will be charged for the track unless someone rents it.

So my dad(runs HPDE3 NASA SoCal) and some of his friends came together to help out. What they came up with is below.

Attention Track Dawgs! $100 gets you a FULL day at the world famous Willow Springs International Raceway. Yes, this is the BIG track, with full sessions, so grab a spot now, as you won’t find a better deal to run this track on the planet!

Like it? Well, read on ‘cause gets even better……As an additional deal for our track hound friends, we’ll offer registration to a second driver in the same car for an additional $75…..That’s 2 drivers for $175, with each getting full sessions of track time!

This will be a four run group event with Novice, Intermediate, Experienced, and Advanced classes. A basic “track talk” will be offered in the morning for novices and those drivers new to running the big track at Willow Springs. Tech opens at 7:00 AM, Driver’s Meeting will be held at 8:00 AM, and first car out at 8:30 AM.

Registration Process:

1. Send an e-mail to: vetteracers@msn.com
2. You will receive directions to an electronic registration form via e-mail
3. Complete the registration form online and you’re in!
4. Payment: All payments will be made via PayPal…Payment instructions will be included on the electronic registration form….SORRY, BUT NO CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED AND NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED!
5. PayPal, Visa, MasterCharge, American Express
6. Tech Form: All drivers are required to complete a safety inspection on their own car, and to present a completed/signed tech form to Technical Inspection on the day of the event. All cars must go through tech. Organizers reserve the right to refuse track access to cars deemed unsafe. Remember drivers, it is your responsibility to have a safe trackworthy vehicle.

Hey Mike will timing & scoring be up? I have just replaced my oilcooler and I'm in the process of flushing the cooling system. Trying to talk wife into going out there in August ( We were there last year in August she hasn't forgotten ) I'm a definate maybe!

There will be technical, timing, lunch room, pregrid and flagging as well as recovery staff. The racers/instructors are from many different groups that have worked together before and should make this an epic event. Mike Peters/"Mad Dog" (NASA HPDE 3) has wanted to have his own event for a long time and has some ideas for an improved driving experience. The level of professionalism and worker staff will be similar to NASA.

I was told there will be some helmets available. "M" helmets will be accepted on a case by case basis. Please talk to tech and they will inspect them for safety. Obviously some "M" helmets are made differently than others which we won't go into here.

The event was a great success!! The owner of Willow Springs called down to the front desk to find out who was on the big track. After telling who it was, he told them to offer up any dates that might be open, and that if there is anyone that might cancel to offer those dates too, also to let them know we would like them back any time.

Everyone was astonished that this caliber of an event was put together in 2 weeks. We had our problems early in the morning with tech and registration. Mainly, the fact that we couldn't find the wristbands for a minute.

There was a few off track incidents and a couple of mechanicals. Everyone was un-hurt and the track was cleaned up promptly after any offs. Best of all there were no bad attitudes all day. Even when a couple people blew an engine, they still stuck around and were having fun hanging out or getting rides from the instructors.

The beginner group was outstanding! Everyone was up to intermediate speed after lunch. The side-by-side drills were a big part I believe. The rolling simulated starts were fun too.

Hopefully we can organize another cheap track day soon. $75 for the second driver of the same car worked for almost 10 people. $100 was a good price to get people off the couch and on the track, but I think we could do it even cheaper next time!

I'm so glad the event was a success! I didn't make it because I was moving that day (movers scheduled and all). Please keep us informed of when the next event is going to be.
