Default Daytona - Viper Days finals - 10/25/09

Here is a quick video from Daytona this weekend:
YouTube - Daytona - Viper Days - WC SRT-4 - 10/25/09 - PBOC

I never really got in a good lap and the track can be intimidating but I am looking forward to Sebring in January for PBOC Winterfest which is going to be jointly run with Viper Days.

Interesting problem I encountered this weekend was the K&N intaek tube completely collapsing causing the car to lose power and then regain power a few seconds later after the elbow expanded back. My quick track fix was to insert a rolled piece of aluminum in the tube to hold the elbow open.

I want to see what you can do when you really push that car! That looked a bit like a "Sunday drive".....

I agree, I only ran 3 "fast" laps all weekend and this was my 2nd of 3. I can see an easy 5 to 10 second improvement in time on my next track day there.

I only ran 3 fast laps because..... I missed the first two sessions Saturday adjusting my camber and toe after I realized too much camber = blown tire at Daytona. The 3rd session I heard someone blaring a horn behind me, which turned out to be one of my brake cooling ducts rubbing a rotor. The 4th session the car almost stalled a couple times due to the K&N intake elbow collapsing. Then 1st session Sunday I was still trying to figure out the K&N intake elbow problem. Finally ran the laps you see 2nd session Sunday and then they started having awards ceremonies since this was finals so I decided to load the car up in one piece. Overall, it was a great weekend, and watching the race group was fun. Looking forward to PBOC Winterfest in January.

"I was still trying to figure out the K&N intake elbow problem."

I don't think you have an elbow problem. It is more likely that your K&N has some restriction that is causing a vacuum in the intake tube. Maybe you could try taking the filter off to see if the problem persists. Maybe your engine is sucking so much air that you need a bigger intake system. In any case, you shouldn't be seeing that much vacuum in the intake pipes.

I agree, I think either the intake tube is too small or the filter is too small. I plan to change to a different intake.
