Looking for comments about autocrossing a Crossfire (DS) or Crossfire SRT6 (AS).
What are the weak points of autocrossing these cars?
Manual or Autostick?
Options to avoid?
Wanted options?
Trim level, base, limited, SRT6?
Is one year better than another?
Biggest thing I found was talk about tires.
Hoosier has
Front
(Stock 225/40-18)
225/40-18
245-35-18
tire options are the downside for the automatic crossfire. Legally you can use 18" wheels in the back because the owners manual says you need to use those for winter use with chains. It is VERY capable in DS once you make that switch.
No, you can NOT use 18" wheels and tires in back. The Miller's tried that a few years ago, and they got protested at nationals and the protest stuck.
Regular Crossfires do just fine in DS. The major problem with them is that Hoosiers don't seem to last very long on the front (14-20 runs according to the Crossfire guys I know). Kumhos last a lot longer on the front. However, Kumho doesn't make a 19" tire. So, usually you'll see a Crossfire running Kumhos up front and Hoosiers in back.
As for the rear tire, some guys run the 295/30, some run a 235/35. The 265 is new to me. The 295 gave you a bit more gearing (one slight downfall of the car, it runs out of second gear quicker than others). The 295 also caused the car to understeer more. Keith Vail ran the 295 on the back. Bryan Hertweck and Aaron Buckley ran the 235 out back. All three have done very well with their cars nationally. They are all driving the stripped out base black Crossfire coupes with cloth seats.
I don't know much about running a SRT6 in AS. SRT6s suck though because they're all automatics

wow, that must be a new (to me) clarification. I know a local guy has run a few national tour events with the 18s over the past few years and he's never been told anything different.
It happened a few years ago. 2005 I think. After that, Frank Miller bought a BSP Lancer Evo. Nobody made a 19" race tire until 2006, so prior to that, Crossfires didn't really have an option.
I honestly can't say I've driven an automatic, at least can't remember driving one. So I don't know for sure, but I'd assume, as is the case with pretty much every other car out there, the automatic isn't as good as the manual.
The SRT-6 might make a fine street car, but we're talking national level autocross here. No one has tried autocrossing one nationally that I know of. Who knows, could be a sleeper?
The SRT-6 that I looked at Sunday was sold when I went back after work today, Was $19,995 and had 3500 miles.
Oh well, I really need to give the SRT-4 one more year. The 245/45-16s up front I think will be the trick. Now only if Kumho could start delivering them in the new v710 compound.
You really couldn't fit much in a crossfire. Not like the SRT-4, wholly s---, you can fit a lot in there.
What rims are you using for the track? Offset? I would love to run 245's, especially if Kuhmo makes the 710 in that size.

Also you may want to pull the fuses for the traction control systems. I don't know which one it is, but at a Mopar event, in a SRT-6 I sat shotgun when a the driver was drifting it and it was a wild ride. Just that ride alone now makes me want one.
How many of our country's problems could be solved – and solved quickly – if politicians were more worried about what is good for our country rather than how to protect their positions of power?
Can't legally pull fuses in stock class cars unfortunately. All the Crossfire guys wish they could disable the stability and traction control (which you can do on a SRT-6, but not on a regular Crossfire).
