Default Brother with a 91 CRX SI...

Ok, my little bro (22) has what the title says, all stock. Hes looking at building a engine not to drag but to road race. Hes a AM rally racer right now and he used the Si to run the stock class with. What would be the best engine to go with. He also races rally subi's and VW's

^^WAY too heavy for the application IMO. I'd say maybe a LsV swap with a jackson racing blower for the AMAZING linear power. Baddest thing I've seen yet was a crx si with an h22 swap..guy said it wasnt easy..or cheap tho. the engine does fit, but its too damn tall. he had to raise his stock hood. had plans on getting a hood that fit though...i would think it would be awesome with a dry sump oil system. that would shorten the engine by a good 3-4 inches by removing the big ass oil pan.

Might want to check the sanction body rule book before you go swapping motors. Might put you in a class that the CRX might not be competitive in.

He runs in the all stock class right now. Most place's he race's at are either full stock or the modded class.

I would run a B20 bottom end with a built B16 head,he would make over 200whp on that all day and that kind of power in that car is enough as it is. It depends how serious he is though, people run frankenstein setups all the time. K-swaps are very popular, but for $1200 you can pick up an H22 longblock and make similar numbers to the K-series. You can pick up a B20 bottom end for dirt cheap though,I saw one the other day go for $300 on craigslist.

honestly if he is gonna road race and AutoX stay away from the K series, LSV is over rated and everyone and their mom does the B20 swap, i personally would do the H2B swap. Its an H22 with an adapted for the b-series trans, that will make it so you will be able to put the trans in that has the best gearing for the application he is going to use it for. Its not as cheap as doing an lsv or a b20 but its different and will give you more torque which will help out alot in road racing.

frankenstein setups are okay, but the dracula setups are unbeatable..
