Blasted coolant elbow!
I was at Laguna Seca this past week with my 2003. Great day, no rain even though the forcast called for some.
Ran my first session in the open passing group, then went out shortly after again to pick up an extra session in an intermediate group. 1st lap went great, and then the second I had a pretty good spin coming out of turn 6.
Car felt really loose getting back to the pits, so I knew something had gone wrong. Parked the car, got out to look at the tires and suspension. Guy next to me yells out "YOU'RE LEAKING!!". Liquid was spurting out from under the car, which is never a good sight to see getting off the track.
Turns out the rubber elbow line that connects two hard pipes that carry coolant from the turbo had burst, and was carrying coolant down the frame of the car and dumping it on the rear wheels. No wonder I spun!
Sadly, the hose didn't have enough length to cut and reclamp, and it was a real pain to get up there. I had to patch it up with some borrowed pipe wrap after the exaust had cooled off, and then refill/bleed the cooling system. Cut my day short, what a pain!
I guess the 04/05s don't have it setup in this way, but more the reason to inspect ALL your hoses before you hit the track! I check them out before each track day, but didn't notice that that one was developing a crack (it's prety hard to see that from all angles up there).
