Ok guys quick fast in a hurry. im going out to the nurburgring on Saturday. yes you heard right the Green Monster. Im on Ksport COs hotchkis sways and 245 kumho ecsta spts on 5zigen fno-1s. dumping the spare and probably the backseat. any recommendations for dampening settings/tire pressures. thinking about running TP a little high since the kumho sidewalls are pretty flexy. gonna chalk the tires just like autox to see how much roll im getting. not trying to set a world record just having fun, but i cant help but say id like to see a mid 9 min run on street tires. planning on about 4 laps. what do you think?
Rebound - I would think 25 to 30 clicks from full soft. Although I do not have any experience with Ksports.
Tire Pressure - hot 44psi to 48psi front, 39psi hot in back
Brake pads & fluid, wheel bearings, and wheel studs are all important to check before tracking the car. Brake fluid needs to be less than 3 years old and preferably a better grade than stock fluid. Pads should be 50%.
I would want to avoid oversteer, if you notice the rear of the car stepping out, then you could soften your Hotchkis rear swaybar. If car still oversteers then stiffen front shocks or soften rear shocks. Watching the Viper ACR video at N-ring the SRT engineers obviously setup the car to push. I would aim for a similar setup until you get lots of seat time on that track. Otherwise, best of luck and sounds fun.
thanks alot for the ideas...and you are right they did set the car up to understeer. the track is alot more forgiving to understeer than oversteer. putting the car on the lift today to check everything over and put in new brake fluid. ill let everyone know how it goes if this rain will clear out of here. rather my first laps on that track be dry.
okay due to one of the guys going out and wrecking his shit the first lap. i got a halfway hot lap in with no video. kinda bummer day. i pulled around 12 minutes with all the delays will be headed out again next weekend for a good lap or 2.
i thinks thats a little slow seeing as all you have to do is average about 63ish mph to make that. there are plenty of spots in that track to make up time if all you are shooting for is 12 minutes. next time car setup will be better and tune was a little off too. so that should be figured out.
you can break 10min with a nice sedan there once you get the hang of it and learn some of the turns and high speed turns. I think you just need seat time at that track since the srt-4 should easily qualify as a sedan :P I would put front tire pressures at 34 hot and rears at 38 hot. Don't really know which Ksport co you'r running but set them 10 clicks from the hardest back for dampening and set your hotchkis stiff for the rear for best handling, than start playing with the dampening. make sure to remember how many turns you alter in each direction. how low is your car buy the way? is it corner balanced? what camber r u running? you should have -3 in front and -2.5 in rear...

went back out and ran a 10:40 second time on the track. still messing with setups but seems to be alot faster if car slightly understeers. i need more seat time and brakes to go faster. will update if i get back out this year since the weather here is about to suck.

You can get in the low 10 minute laps with a Ford transit van if you know the track =)
I thought I remember someone running 9's in an SRT.
i too like it a bit pushy. 37-39 hot front and 36 hot rear. you will be faster with a more predictable car ( I should say more forgiving ) until you get a few laps in. Then i would set it up grippy up front with a little oversteer. to pull outta the corners. Remember that the biggest improvement to a lap time ( generally speaking and on this track specificly ) is exit speed. being able to get the power to the ground on exit is imperative. Think about it this way. if you have a 1/8 th mile staight away and you enter that staight away with 5 mph faster than you normally do you will be 5mph faster at the end of the straight. you will have carried that extra speed the *entire time* you were on the straight netting you a much better lap time. This is of course after you have found 'the line'. We work on braking is last, so if you are hammering the brakes to get her slow enough to stick, then you need to relax a bit and try to be more progressive (longer and easier) with the braking areas and SMOOTHER through the turn .... keeping more speed cause you were smoother... etc etc etc. remember what they say 'you have to go slower to be faster' =]
