Default American Touring Car Championship Joins Drift Atlanta Weekend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

American Touring Car Championship Joins Drift Atlanta Weekend for 2009 Season Opener

DANVILLE, VA. (March 6, 2009) – The opening rounds of the new American Touring Car Championship (ATCC) will be conducted as part of the exciting Drift Atlanta weekend at Road Atlanta on May 8 and 9, 2009. ATCC teams will begin their quest for inaugural Team, Driver and State Championships on this exciting spectator weekend, which includes Formula Drift, expanded vendor midway activities and car shows.

“We are pleased to be kicking off our inaugural season at Road Atlanta,” said USERA President, Ken Grammer. “Road Atlanta has a long history in our sport and has provided some pivotal moments in the development of so many great championships. I can’t think of a more exciting place to launch our new race series.”

The rules for the Championship have been developed specifically with cost containment in mind. With over 40 cars classified for the Championship, the rules allow cars built to existing stock-based classes to race with few, if any, changes. For example, many cars built SCCA's Touring 2 and Touring 3 rules as well as cars built to some of the NASA stock series rules like PTC, PTD, H1 and Honda Challenge, may find they are eligible and competitive for ATTC events.

The American Touring Car Championship will conduct six double race weekends in 2009 for a total of 12 Championship races. The series is specifically designed to keep cost down for race teams while providing exciting touring car road racing for the fans.

Additional race weekends will be announced soon.

Further details in the 2009 American Touring Car Championship can be found at the series web site ATCC - USERA American Touring Car Championship.
