..but now my miata and g20 have no ABS

...maybe it's more of a problem at autocross?

If you were not in ABS at the end of EVERY long straight you are not braking late enough nor hard enough. Id be passing you on the inside all day :p even with the ABS off I dont brake till I see god! Threshold braking FTW .. so to speak =]
98% of the people out there don't brake hard enough on the long tracks. on the conetrack it's often hard to brake in a perfectly straight line. so this problem shows its ugly head.

just wait till you see the 300ft sign on your left, then hit the brake pedal and pucker your ass and hope to slow down enough before turn in

if you dont, you can cruise thru the cones and continue on your way.

DJ, I requested you for sessions 1&2 on the 28th

edit: you guys lucked out on the weather....90 degrees. I will be there around 10:30 to check out the action

Somthing "normal" people can try doing. On your daily drive you no doubt have a street you turn on to where you can go straight if need be. Try stopping at the last possiable place you think the car can safely slow and make the corner at a normal speed. Say you are traveling at 40mph and you normaly take the corner at 15 mph. See how close you can get to the corner and still slow to 15mph. I mean really lean on the brake pedal. If the ABS doen't come on you are not hitting it hard enough. You will be shocked how fast your car can scrub off 25mph.

Oh I initially had problems with the rear end going crazy on braking.. but i learned to modulate the brakes, and played with the brake pad combo...

now in my miata I don't brake nearly as much anyway so yeah.. there is that..

each to their own I guess... lol

I used to be the queen of late braking on my 993 (a bad habit I picked up) and later learned it was a 'crutch' and meant I didnt' have as good of entry and exit speeds in the corners..

as I drive my miata, I continue to unlearn my bad habits I picked up from my former 993.... and so it goes... I hope to become a better driver as I continue to learn this new driving style.....

That's why I love our gutless wonder of a Miata. It's really helping me become a better driver.

Had a really good event yesterday. Just flying thru a very fast course.

I installed a pretty beffy, brass check valve on my PCV / catch-can line.
Very happy with it, been working great for over a year...

I thought 'missing' brakes issue was just in my head, till I had a co-driver
last season, and we both took out quite a few cones in the exit gate
(& made a few course workers soil their pants) b/c we had no braking power.

After that I decided to replace the flimsy plastic brake check valve with another brass one.
World of a difference, no more waiting 1+ seconds for braking pressure after letting off the gas.

Still have to focus on strait-line braking of course, & think braking will be
even better after getting new tie rods & coil-overs.
But, check-valve did help alot.

So i got to run the car on a fast solo 2 course yesterday with a new chack valve in place and Oh my does it stop better now!! I was on the ABS a few times but I felt like I always had brakes. What I was feeling before was not the ABS I'm sure of that now!

Replace your CHECK VALVE!!! I could smell hot brakes at the end of a run. I have not smelled that smell at all this yr.

Brass check valve is prolly a good idea too.
