Default Help needed Launching/doing a burnout at the track!

Hey guys! SO last night took the srt out to the local 1/8 mile track on my street tires and couldn't burnout in the burnout box to save my life. i tried dropping the clutch at at 3500 rpms and i would get NASTY wheel hop! I have boomba MM so idk what the heck is going on. I didnt take any air out of the tires at all since they were street tires. What can i do to get a good burnout?? Im going back next week on DR and dont want to snap an axle. Any input would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

fyi- Im not a noob when it come to racing at all. I used to have a LS1 camaro that went 7.4 in the 1/8 mile on slicks with just a intake and exhaust and small 75 shot. But i am new to FWD so i know i have some learning to do.

In case you guys are wondering. i ran a 8.9 at 86 mph. Didnt lauch at all... just rolled into it. I also got wheel hop shifting into 2nd..

Maybe my MM are no good anymore?? idk...

Just doing mm's isn't going to completely solve your wheel hop. I installed mm inserts and then also did poly lca bushing and the wheel hop is much better. When I just had the inserts in, I was still getting pretty bad wheel hop. The best solution for wheel hop is going to be traction bars, at least from what I have heard.

As you know doing a burn out on street tires won't do much.

But once you get your DR's try doing your burnout's in 2nd gear.

^^ this.

street tire burnouts in general do nothing but mess up your tires. you need alot of wheel speed to keep from getting wheel hop so once you pass through the water box and begin your burnout do it in 2nd. saw the wheel back and forth for about 5 seconds then release your parking brake and ride out the burnout to keep from snapping an axle.

no don't worry about traction bars right now and don't get MM inserts... get SOLID motor mounts like AGP's.. I have them and I have absolutely no wheel hop when I launch. When you launch on street tires slip the clutch really fast and slowly get into it then at the top of 1st fucking rail it snatch 2nd and be gone lol. What mods do you have done? I've gotten 2.1 60ft's on street tires which I don't think is too bad and that was at a shitty track

2nd gear burnouts on nice, wet tires (I like to roll back and forth in the waterbox), traction bars, and solid mounts everywhere possible.

I do a nice long burnout and let the tires pull me out of the waterbox as I ease up on the E-Brake. After all the staging lights are on I use my 2 step to hold 4400 RPM at 8 PSI and then dump the clutch on the third yellow light and hold on. The meth kicks on nearly as soon as I let up the clutch and it's down the track.

I'd of course recommend slicks instead of drag radials. They are much softer on all of your drivetrain components.

If you have adjustable coilovers it will be beneficial to experiment with different settings for the front and rear tires.

Want to get rid of wheel hop? Get slicks. Your axles will thank you.

Has over 100 passes on stock axles and inserts in the torque struts (motor mounts).

^^ That's what I was going to say. Slicks will help a lot with wheel hop, street tires are what was mainly causing yours. I've only raced on DR's a few times so I can't help you out much there. But like others said the solid motor mounts will help more than just inserts for wheel hop as well.

Let us know how you do on the DRs.
