Default Drag Strip Shock!

Well gang, I finally was able to go to US 41 for some time runs in my nrewly acquired 05 SRT4 named PIT BULL....I'm a retired mailman! The car is BONE stock except for Taylor plug wires...Taylor...imagine that. I use this car as a delivery truck when I sell and deliver Mustand rims so the front seat is out. I can put 8 rims with mounted tires inside it and a set of rims in the trunk! Using my drag strip calculator shows that putting the seat back in would not slow it down by even a tenth.

The tire pressure was 40/37 for the first run...lots of hop and spin, then set at 32/30 for the next 2 runs, a tiny hop and spin on 2nd pass and none on the third. I left every pass by side stepping the clutch at about 2000 rpm, like I do on the street. On the way there I tried to just dump the clutch at 2000 rpm and it had severe wheel hop and spin.

The shifter feels, and sounds, like dry rubber against metal, so I had to lift between shifts briefly. I would have been okay with a 14.4...but was hoping to be at the NHRA index of 14.15 for our AF/S class. The record is a 12.65 with no stages allowed...in a SRT4!

1st pass, 60' = 2.19, 1/8th = 9.19 at 80+, 1/4 = 13.86 at 101+!!!!!!
2nd pass 2.08, 9.00 80+ 13.84 101+!!!!!!
3rd pass 2.09 9.02 80+ 13.88 100+!!!!!!

All passes I shifted 1-2 at 5500, for the 1st and second passes I shifted the remainder at 5800, on the last pass I shifted the remainder at 6000.

I AM SHOCKED...AND VERY HAPPY!!! By BONE stock, I MEAN BONE STOCK!!!
I have a CAI but it is sitting in the kitchen...I still had a stock, but new air filter still on it! Even the exhaust is stock!

All that is now about to change, I have a stage 2 that just arrived, Mopar exhaust, the CAI, shifter bushings, solid motor mounts, maybe traction bars, and some other little tunning mods. The only slicks or DOT sticky tires I have are 13s or 14s.....I might get some 15 Hoosiers....I run snow radials on 15s in the winter and back in Feb Tire Rack said they had about 16 different 15s that would fit on our cars!

Mr Taylor is a long time Mopar FWD turbo drag racer, notice the GLH in his sig.

Finally got around to buying Mopar's latest FWD beasty huh? lol

AF/S doesn't allow Staged upgrades??? I am not sure that is correct, you might wanna check that. Last I heard you can use any computer, which means up to Stage 2, because the record was set with a Stage 2 car.

Cabway is one of the other AF/S runners -

Quote:
We actually ran must faster, I missed 3rd gear on that pass. We were the number 1 qualifier at the event. I weighed in at 3170 lbs on that pass running VP C-11 fuel. Stage 2 with Crane 14 cams that are worth only 10 hp in stock configuration. All SRT-4 were factored on Monday and now have to weigh 3205 lbs. We were then # 2 at the race next week.

Here's a 12 second pass he made at the US Nationals last year -

YouTube - 2007 US Nationals SRT-4 #1 Qualifier

Just wanted to add, I run 12's stock turbo (manifold is ported however, no legal), intake manifold ported, bored throttle body, full 3" exhaust including o2 sensor, tuned Super AFC Neo, Stage 1 with Injectors (its an '03) on 23x7.5x15 slicks on PT steelies.

Now you can run more boost with S2, especially with Toys and run high octane fuel and run my times without the port work, not even an issue.

I bumped the older thread, check it out

Nice times man. That is great to get that with a stock car. Best I could pull off with S1 was a 14.4 or 14.2. Yeah, my driver mod sucked arse at the time.

As for slick or DR's, definately look into the M&H brand. From what I have read online and my personal experience with the slicks, they last alot longer than the hoosiers and they net a better time, I guess from providing better grip.

Just get some PT Steelie rims and mount the tires on those. Cheap and they do the job.

Good luck with the mods and the new times afterwards.

I was assuming ( which makes an ass out of u and me) that stage 2 was not allowed...I stand corrected...slicks are legal, CAI are not, but you can get rid of the airfilter and exhaust. The only fuel allowed is at the tracks, some guys had pump gas show up as having illegal additives but the hi octane track fuel is hard to beat. Turbo tous are not allowed and some bracket race tecks will boot you if they see a intercooler sprayer since some moisture might get on the track. Ebvery 2 years the records are erased. The index is 14.15, but you must beat that by at least a 13.65...if I did that, then back it up, I might have to go through a tear down inspection to make sure it is legal...or, you can be picked by random for a tear down....I'd be screwed...not even close to being a mechanic, although I have lots of experiance at figuring out problems that I had and they fixed.

Get a hold of a NHRA rule book for the basics, then somewhere on line is a engine blue print guide, but I can't find it. You call the NHRA tech and ask them too. I am just a bracket racer and not a mechanic, so if I go to a division race and enter a class, I might be randomly picked for a motor tear down, or if you set a record you might have to tear it down too. Not for me. Not to mention the very high entry fees!

well if i DO qualify, my best is a 12.57 on street tires which already beats the record. so it might actually be worth the entry fee for me.
