Default 1st time at the track with slicks...

I ran with a slicks for the first time today... Burnouts were a lot of fun, but the slicks are just too much tire for me right now... I actually ran SLOWER with the slicks than I do on street tires. Consistent 14.46's with a 14.39 thrown in there @ 98mph during the time trials. Won round 1 of the double brackets, got eliminated in round 2. Put my street tires back on to drive home... a lot of people wanted to see me run again, and someone actually asked the tower if I could do another time trial while they were waiting on the rest of the double bracket racers to line up. I ran a 14.0 @ 101mph on the street tires. Still couldn't beat my best of a 13.99 @ 101.

I couldn't get better than a 2.4 60' with the slicks, run the street tires once, and I get a 2.249 60'.

Still had a lot of fun though. One guy showed up with his '08 Avenger R/T (V6 AWD) 'cause he was working and didn't have time to get his '73 Challenger ready. I ran him heads up on a time trial, beat him by a dozen lengths, lol. 14.4 @ 98 to his 17.1 @ 65. Then I talked a '99 Cobra into running me heads up since we had really close times. I just barely beat him... 14.460 to 14.465 , that was probably the most fun race of the day. Should have switched to my street tires earlier, would have had him by at least .4 .

On the bracket run that I got eliminated on, the announcer said "Here we have our only FWD car again... pulling into the water box backwards (meaning I have to pull forward into it, where the RWD cars go around it and then back into it) for a burnout... but boy what a burnout this car does, that is one fast Sebring Sedan!". I ran a 14.467 on my 14.39 dial in, the 80's Camaro in the other lane ran a 13.71 on his 13.66 dial in.

So I won't be running the slicks again until I can put down more power. I wish I had the money for a smaller set of slicks, or some drag radials, those would probably be perfect. The street tires are not enough traction, and the 26" slicks are just too much traction.

What tire pressure were you running, and where did you launch at?

Started out with 20, that was too much, dropped it down to 18 and didn't spin at all with 18.

<--- has an automatic... I have a 3500rpm stall, but with the slicks on it's hard to keep it from moving forward with the slicks on... had a hard time luanching above 2500rpm.

Why are you running 26" slicks? From the sound of things a 23" would work out much better for you. That or it's time for some nitrous.

'cause they are only .3" taller than my stock tire, and I got a good deal on them.

I don't think I'd go down to a 23... I think going to the 24.5 would work well (plus I could use the same tube)... but the 26" will probably be just what I need when I get my fuel pump upgraded and can boost 26psi.

You slowed down because your bogging hard off the line. I launch at 5500RPMS and cut 1.7s all day long. A 2500RPM launch just aint going to cut it on a 26 inch slick. Thats really to much slick for your power level!

It's really quite impossible for me to launch at 5500rpms when I have an automatic with a 3500rpm stall. I should be able to launch at a higher RPM than I was last time out, but I was having a hard time with it.

First priority is getting the fuel pump upgraded so I can turn up the boost. Then I'll go to a smaller slick if needed.

I would love to be able to cut 1.7's all day.

Send a PM to John from M&H. He will tell you what size slick you need. I'm gonna guess a 23" slick

Unless you have over 400whp you don't need a 26 inch slick. Considering your launching at 3500rpm thats just even worse. You dnyoed around 250whp right? A 23 inch slick will be much better. Ever consider just using drag radials? 18psi is also wayy too high to fully get advantage out of the slicks.

Get some 23" slicks, run them at around 12psi, and launch at 5k RPM and you will do much better... good luck.

Will be hitting over 400whp in a few weeks. Trying to sell a pair of Datsuns I have laying around so I can add an external Walbro 255 and run -8AN lines all the way around. Also going to put direct port water/meth injection on it. Everything else is already setup to hit 400. If I can't do it on just the turbo, I have a Zex wet kit in the garage that I can put on to push me over the edge.

Yes I thought about just drag radials. I got a better deal on these brand new rims with the brand new tubes and slicks already mounted on them than I could find for some rims and drag radials, so I went with these.

Thanks but uh, you obviously didn't read. It is impossible for me to launch at 5K, I have an AUTOMATIC with a 3500rpm stall.

Uh, you obviously didn't read the section before posting in it. "SRT-4 Racing Discussion > Drag Racing" So don't get upset when we assume these are questions related to a manual SRT-4. If you want solid answers you need to provide solid information, like year, model, etc.

What mods do you have that you can be at 400whp in a couple of weeks?

Mostly complete mods list here: Turbo Sebring Sedan: World's first Turbo Sebring Sedan - Great Falls, Montana

Being on just my stock fuel pump is the main thing holding me back right now. I can't run more than 17psi without the fuel pump giving up right now.

I just sold a '73 Datsun 240Z and a '77 Datsun 280Z that I had taking up space in my garage, so I have the cash I need now.

I will be adding an external Walbro 255 in series with the in-tank Walbro 190 stock pump, upgrading all the lines from the tank to the fuel rail and back to -8AN. That will give me more than enough fuel to turn up the boost.

I will also be picking up a direct port water/meth injection system since nobody sells race gas anywhere out here. I will re-tune for that and be able to run a little more timing.

Several people are hitting just over 400whp with the same turbo I have (I have the same engine as you guys too) @ 26psi with water/meth injection and fewer supporting mods than what I have. With the extra drivetrain loss from my automatic transmission, I may fall just short of 400whp on this turbo, but like I said, I have a Zex wet kit sitting in my garage, and I will use that to push me over 400whp if needed.

I'm shooting for as close to an 11.5 without going faster (don't want to put a roll bar in it) as I can get out of this car.

Right now it's consistent 13.99s with 2.249 60's. If I could get down to at least a 1.8 60' that could be right around a 13.1 as is... leaving right around 1.5 seconds that I need to shave off to get where I want to be.

You gotta realize this car stock with it's NA 2.4L only had 150HP at the CRANK, and runs 17.37 @ 79.47mph at sea level. I have it running 13.99's @ 101mph on a 4500' elevation track right now.

Oh and to [vu]juan... chill man, wasn't insulting you. I post here because I have more SRT-4 parts on this car than most of the Neons here. What I drive is pretty obvious from my screen name, my sig, and my original post.
