Default 05 Stock srt-4 vs. 05 Saturn Ion redline stage 2

So yea I am the one actually with the Ion redline stage 2. My buddy just bought a STOCK srt-4 and wants to race me this week. My redline has stage 2 which includes a 2.9 pulley, ecu reflash whichs ables me to redline and shift at 7000rpm,and larger injectors. I also have a K&N CAI on it. I think it will be a close race,we are both really good at shifting when it comes to racing. So I was just curious of what yall guys think. I am actually looking for a stock srt-4 myself, but my buddy beat me to the punch....(fucker!) late

i dunno man. ive known sveral guys here in socal with the ion rdline as well as the cobalt SS/SC and even with the S2 and a bunch of bolt ons they still got wasted on highway runs. from a dig i have no clue how well they do though. are you planing on running at a track, from a dig, or a highway roll?

from a dig, its all driver man. whoever launches best is prolly gunna win. but on a highway roll, honeslty i think hes gunna walk you pretty hard. you gotta remember, a STOCK SRT4 makes 250 ft/lb of Tq.... and thats assuming his is 100% stock. chances are he prolly has one or two mods that are simple as hell yet prolly net him an additional 30-40 ft/lbof tq, things like a MAP clamp and a WGA are extrememly effective on the SRT4.

god luck though and let us know how it goes!

stop thinking about the ET. ET is an indication if traction and driver skill. his car was on drag radials, so yes, 13.5 is TOTALLY doable. what you need to focus on is the trap speed. thats what is most likely going to be the determining factor in your race. whichever car maintains the most power to keep pushing faster and faster. i ran my SRT4 13.1 @ 107.2 with just a MAP clamp and boosted up and an exhaust, and that was on STREET tires. time slips to prove it over and over again. iadded a little more basic mods and ran all the way up to a 115 trap speed. at this point my car was taking out low-end porsches carerras and BMW M3s and M5s like it was nobodies business on the highway...

if you are looking to whoop his ass out of the hole, you need traction and skill. thats what will get you the better ET. as far as trap speed goes, im prety sure he is going to waste you on trap speed. not trying to be rude or anti-ionRL, im just going ack to basic fundamentals of drag racing physics...

he said he was on DR's.. a stock SRT with DR's prob runs around that maybe better, depends on driver.. fastest stock time on streets if i remember correctly is a 13.7-13.6

take it from neondan. he ran the quickest stock turbo srt4 in the nation for a few years, and i beleive he still holds the record even tho he no longer has stock turbo. you can take his word to the bank.

Sorry I didn't realize that guy ran the 13.5 on Drags. My bad. But yea my friens is COMPLETELY stock. I know the srt-4 has some serious top end b/c of the turbo. We will prob race from a dig a couple of times and from a roll a couple of times. I know from a roll its gonna be harder to beat him. I wish I had a srt-4 myself actually,I love them. I have raced some of the newer civic si's,and rsx type s's,and couple VW gti's and beat them so, I guess this is the real test eh>?!

so yea, then dansrt4 is the guy... point is, "stock" srt4 or "stock turbo" srt4 dont matter... a good driver can seriously fuck some shit up with an SRT4 versus just about anything...

but i like the sounds of the ion redline tho superchargers sound cool to me as well have fun and be safe!

Yea I"m going to have to agree with lunchbox...basically your driving skill in these cars varies so much that the ET really becomes pointless and you have to look at the MPH.

Stock it's a 99-101mph car
Wastegate only it's a 103-105mph car
Add more bolt-ons and it goes from there...hell look at my sig if you want an idea of simple bolt-ons + tune gets you over 110 in these cars...and that's without touching the fuel system yet.

I see you didnt note any evos or wrxs. when i had my stg2 wrx i didnt see any SC ions around, but those cars you named off i killed them in races. Dig or from a roll...but i did race a stock sti last night in my stock srt4 from a highway roll from 45 and stayed right there with him all the way till 110... so take that into consideration, also.

With a wastegate, DCR Oil Mod, and 3\" cutout, I picked up almost 50 ft-lbs of torque down low. On drag radials that was enough to get me a 13.4 @ 106.

I\'ve raced a stock Ion Redline when my SRT was stock. It didn\'t stand a chance. I think it\'ll be very close in your situation. If he\'s good off of the line with the radials, you\'ll be fighting him all of the way to the finish.
