Default Wheel Hop Problem

Why cannot any dealer correct my wheel hop problem ?
I was willing to return the car and take another that did not do it.
It seems there is a 60/40% chance your car will do it. Does Dodge
not care about this problem ?

Yep - common problem with no real cure.

I'm not sure if my car does it cause I've never spun the back tires. Better off not knowing I guess.

It has more to do with tire/road temperature and tire pressure. There are some conditions that make it difficult to spin without causing wheel hop. when it occurs back off the throttle and get back on more gradually. When you can spin the tires on demand at about any speed under 100 you become accustomed to dealing with wheel hop. I have also heard than a switch to Aldan shocks helps as well, plus allows you to lower the car at the same time.

I don’t think you can understate the effect road temp has. While out on my Sunday drive this morning, I had an opportunity to pummel a Mach-1. I had considerable wheel hop when shifting hard into 2nd gear. This morning, the air was chilly and so were the roads. The last time I shifted hard into 2nd like that was during a hot afternoon back in July. The tires hooked up good back then with no wheel hop whatsoever.

I’m not sure I agree with the part about tire pressure although I’ve not done any testing to prove one way or the other. It’s just my belief that the sidewalls on run flats are so stiff that lower tire pressure will do little to soften them like it would for regular tires.

it's road type, suspension, temp of outside, road and tires...and ur pressure has some to do with it....not much due to stiff sidewall....

Lilturbododge has a good comment, and we have seen improvement when we install Motons, but there are so many other issues that cause this with and independent rear end vehicle.

Most wheel hop in our cars can be eliminated by removing the turbo. (Not in your case, 29 Outlaw!) Seriously, inserts/motor-mounts and a lower suspension will help the problem. Look at the wheel-hop as a no-cost option installed by DMC.

Traction bars will stop the hop. Wheel hop is the number cause of u-joint failure resulting in dropped drive shafts. I had that problem too until I added traction bars. Now I have zero wheel hop and much better traction. I also removed the chances of dropping the drive shaft.

In a Viper you added traction bars? How? Sounds more like what you did to a Mustang.

No in my 2002 HD F150. I used to get wheel hop during my burnouts at the strip but since adding Tbars I have gotten none. I'm sure they make tbars for Vipers as well. The principle is the same as will be the results. I have a friend who has a new Viper and I can find out from him if you like. He is a dyno tuner. In the mean time look here. http://store.yahoo.com/chucker54/camolespset.html or here http://store.yahoo.com/chucker54/catrbarsy1.html

The Viper is a sports car. And like almost every sports car in the world it has independent suspension. Traction bars do not work. Only suspension settings (shock compression and rebound, spring rate), tires and tire pressure, and wheels work to resolve the issue.

sorry, I don't know that much about them. I was just trying to help if I could. I wish you the best of luck in resolving this issue. I'm sure it's frustrating.

Default Is this guy serious?

Rob, you should have checked into the car first, Thats funny you tryed to return the car. Just get some motor mounts or some inserts. I have AGP dogbone motor mount, they are great no hop, a bit ruff on idle and when ac is on.
