Automaker to fix potentially defective power steering part
DETROIT - DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler division on Wednesday said it was recalling about 681,000 minivans to replace a potentially defective power steering component.
The models recalled, in a blow to Chrysler's recent claims of improved quality, are from the 2002-2004 model years.
The automaker said the upper power steering hose on the recalled vehicles may be prone to leakage, potentially resulting in engine compartment fires.
Separately, Chrysler said it was also recalling 2,000 Dodge Ram pickups from the 2004 model year due to a possible problem with the wiring on their alternators.
