Default Grill question

Ok this is a grill question. The grill on this car has been either hated or loved. Personally its one of my favorite cosmetic features on the car. I love it. But I was concerned about dirt from the street getting in the hood. Is there some kind of huge filter behind the grill to protect it?

Unfortunately, that grill design is also part of the bumper and any parking damage on front end will require replacing that damn grill. The Grille should not be part of the damn bumper. The 300M had the same thing. I see this grill as the most ordered part to replace especially in urban areas where parallel parking is common.

Why can't they put a real bumper on cars now?
