Dodge plans to build a new UTE vehicle

DC announcing Durango-based Chrysler ute today Chrysler Group CEO Dieter Zetsche today is expected to announce at least one new product, probably an SUV built off the same chassis as the Dodge Durango. Prudential Securities auto analyst Mike Bruynesteyn said in a research report Monday that in a recent tour of the company's Delaware plant, provisions were obviously being made for a second model. Chrysler is trying to spawn new SUVs off the latest hardware. Dodge next year will reportedly get a compact SUV version of the Jeep Liberty. A second SUV off the Durango would likely be offered as a Chrysler, and carry more premium features and packaging than the Durango. Separately, Moody's Investors Service raised the outlook for DaimlerChrysler AG's debt rating to "stable" from "negative," citing factors including the automaker's improved profit margins and cash flow. Moody's outlook reflects the rating agency's view of the likely direction of a company's credit ratings over the next 18 months. The rating agency cited stronger than expected first-quarter operating results, growth in higher-profit truck/SUV sales and a good launch to the 300C. -Jim Burt
