Dodge halts new Durango sales
Throttle problem on 21,000 vehicles cited

Automotive News / January 13, 2004
Dodge is telling dealers to stop selling the redesigned 2004 Dodge Durango because the throttle is liable to stick in the open position, resulting in a "crash without warning."
An estimated 21,000 vehicles are affected, the company said in a written communication to dealers. The vehicles affected are equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 or 4.7-liter V-8.
The stop order does not include Durangos equipped with Dodge's 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi engine.
The company began building the redesigned 2004 model in September 2003.
"Water may enter into the throttle cable housing on about 21,000 of the vehicles," the written notice said. "If the vehicle is subjected to freezing temperatures, this could cause the throttle to stick in the open position and result in a crash without warning."
The stop sale order requires dealers to install a revised throttle control cable.
Most of the affected vehicles remain in dealer inventory, the company's notice said. Dealers are contacting any customers who have taken delivery of an affected vehicle.

Im not trying to be a dick, but that kind of statement is something I would expect a ricer troll to make.....not someone who owns a Dodge and has 4300+ posts on a Dodge board. EVERY manufacturer has problems and recalls with their vehicles. And keep in mind that this is a brand new bodystyle, and some glitches are to be expected.
Sorry just felt that I should stick up for the vehicles that we all drive since it looks like no one else is going to.

The Hemi would scare me to. From what I was told by a friend who works a dealer the Hemi Ram doesn't have a throttle cable, the pcm contols it, he said fly by wire. I cant remember if he said it happened at his dealership or another one but some one was doing some work on a truck and it just took off and smashed into the wall. I dont know if he is BSing me or not.
I haven't crashed into any walls lately!!! i just blow the doors off people! gotta love it!!! was a die hard Ford girl, traded for the new hemi truck line. God she flys through snow!!!! my snowmobile trailer goes so nice on the rear, love the trailer tow mirrors! WHEN CAN I GET A SRT-8 DURANGO, WHEN WILL THEY OR WILL THEY COME OUT :crybaby: ?????? I MUST HAVE!!!!!!
Nissan uses them on their Maxima too, and so does Ford on the new F150, cars will be flying into walls all over the place sooner or later.
sentras (at least SER's ) have them too. The only problem ever with ours was our floormat wasnt held down in the first production, so it would slide up and the pedal would get caught on it, sticking at WOT. They fixed that with a simple tab holding the floormat in place.
