There is a new Dakota coming in 05 but wait one year for the SRT version.
It will be much lighter and smaller than the normal 36XXlbs R/C weight due to the using hydro-formed frame technology and exotic materials to lightened the truck.
THe last review given by Buzz (www.car-truck.com) was that it will be crossed between Power Wagon, baby Ram, and the Power Box designed with a more conserative tone.
Buzz, lost his insider moles due to the crack down internally at Chrysler.
Then the cost of maintaining the board and time put in was too much for him. So to answer that, no.
However, I think I found some moles at ALLPAR. To validate this, at SEMA, talking to some engineers from DCX, I ask some future models questions to check their information to match mine. Though, I knew the answer, three of them were correct.

A regular cab dakota weighs in at about 3800-3900lbs. The club cab is about 4200lbs.

I've heard the answer is no hemi first year. After that more then likely as an SRT-8 option. The dakotas going to stay similar dimensions not smaller or bigger at least thats what i've heard. Theres still a lot of confusion and misinformation about it all. So best thing to do is wait for an answer from daimler chrysler.

My '99 R/T regular cab (with full Hotchkis, x-brace, Vortech, full tank and slicks) weighed in at 4335 lbs, before I added the air/water intercooler. That's street trim except for the slicks, which are a lot lighter then the stock wheels. This truck is a 4300 lbs yellow brick .
