To make a long story short, months ago I made a post inquiring about a local who does good taillight tinting and was approached by this young man. Initially I lost track of time and never sent the taillights to get tinted.
On July 21 I sent $50 via Paypal, and on July 22 I sent the taillights. He's maybe 50 miles from where the item was shipped. According to UPS, the package was dropped off at his house on the 23rd.
On the 24th I received this PM:
Quote:
started on them today and i did a little bit of repair on them by getting some of those scratches out of them and im just waiting for clear to dry and then to buff them and they will be ready
The following message he asked if he could borrow my DRB scan tool as well. I declined, and am very thankful I did.
Did not hear back from him so I decided to PM him on the 30th asking what was going on with them, and I got this reply:
Quote:
i wasnt happy with the first time i did them so i sanded them down and redid them i can get them out saturday for you they are turning out great
Saturday came and went, I had no tracking number, and the week followed, and no tinted taillights were at the doorstep, so I sent him another PM which he didn't reply to. A few days later I sent him another, and he replied with this response:
Quote:
sorry just noticed you sent the PM's they are finishing curing right now and are going out tomorrow, im sorry it took so long but i just wasnt letting them leave my possession until they were perfect, and i finally got that, i will give you a tracking number around noon tomorrow, sorry once again i hope you can understand
Meanwhile I'm at the local meets talking to some other car guys who said mattyice is notorious for this kind of run-around shena****ns. He says they're done when they haven't been started, and he holds onto things for a ridiculous amount of time before he actually does the work and ships them out. At this point, I'm starting to wonder.
Well "noon tomorrow" came and I had no tracking number. I PM'd him a few days later and got no response, yet he was constantly active in the NEOH thread, so I made a public post located here:
NE Ohio.... Again
Following the above post, he said he offered to drop them off before and I declined (mind you the stipulation for him getting and dropping off the taillights was for me to allow him to borrow my DRB scan tool). I made him aware of this again, and on the 7th I was issued a tracking number.
The taillights came 3 days later and now we have a equally as disturbing problem - the quality. This is a guy who CLAIMED to have done the taillights twice because he "didn't like" how they looked the first time. Well, the job was mediocre at best. A decent amount of people at the local meets knew about my plight (the same people who warned me about matty's shoddy business skills), were not surprised at the mediocre quality of the taillights. They are tinted, yes, but there was certainly no care in sanding them properly and sand marks can be seen on the surface of the tint. For something that took over 2 weeks for him to do, with all of these "they'll ship tomorrow" claims, they look pretty bad up close.
Previous to this, I opened up a Paypal dispute that I figured would light a fire under his ass. It seemed to have done the trick. I let it sit there and stew for a week before closing it today, but not before 2 PM's from him whining to close it. Quite a few people told me I should sit on the money until it gets escalated just because of the run-around he gave me. I closed the dispute today.
So if you need any powdercoating needs, or tinting needs, stay away from this kid. Give Adam Lepole a text (lepolesconcepts) as he does 100% better work in a day or two and has a much more mature approach to handling unsatisfied customers. Honestly if it comes to picking between matty or yourself to tint anything, pick yourself. Not only will you have the products done on time but they'll probably look much better.
Another thing, when other locals are telling you to stay away from one of their own, for God's sake listen.
