Default The SRT'N 1 Build Thread of PROJECT BLUE SLED

Teaser picture...pretty recent.. 1 weeks ago

[IMG][/IMG]
The thread I have been telling James A. (Ghost-1), Kevin Warren240, Chuck-Srt-4, and Aaron at Realtune that I would make is finally here. My brother and I have been waiting on our neighbor, Doug Albeitz, the engine builder to give us the CD with the pictures of the engine build. So, now with the proper information and pictures we are able to make a thread in formal order. Before this thread even begins I WANNA THANK : James A( Ghost -1…AKA Mr. Hawaii) – diagram man, Kevinwarren240 – (Always knows the answers to my question…) Chuck thanks for info and advice….Aaron Realtune(dude banger- helped with parts and advice. Everyone else thanks too…

First off I would like to say this build has not been easy nor has it been given to my twin brother (Sean) and I (Ryan). All the work that has been done on the car has been done by my twin brother (Sean), my best friend who lives up the street (Carlos), and me. The only things we did not do were machining and assembly of the long block. Our neighbor, Doug Albeitz, owns AMT Race Engines. He is the one who full blueprinted and built our Long Block Motor. He has been building motors for 22 years and teaches as a professor on the weekends in multiple different states around the country. His website is amtracingengines.com if you want to see the work the guy does. He does mostly all pro mod, top fuel dragsters, and big mother F**k*** motors. Lastly, Richard, who owns Twisted Metals Inc. for custom fabricating has fabricated the exhaust, V-band connections and little problems we’ve had or stuff needed to be custom made or CNC made.

Doug, fully blue printed our motor and made it an experience vs. just give me the money I will build you a motor. He was the one who recommended us do a O-ring instead of a multi-layer head gasket. This happens to be our second SRT-4 motor that he has built for us. Through the process of deciding parts and options, he made us do a lot of the digging for info and parts. It made us more aware of everything and gave us a great learning experience. Everything that has been chosen in this motor and build has been thought about……….talked about……….called about………..thought about……..researched about………….Yelled about……………..Then thought about again……….Then looked up………….Then decided. This build has taken very long to me to get together not because of install time but because of part delays, waiting on people, waiting on engine builder, time, etc.

But, this build has really been a 19 year olds dream build. My twin brother and I have our own lawn care and landscaping company named, Twin Edge Lawn Care and Landscaping, LLC. We have been in business for 8 years now and this season will be our 9th season. We started it when we were 12 and have grown it into a career vs. money for hockey. We are now going to college and will graduate in the fall with a horticulture degree specializing in Landscape Design and Turf Management. So, our income and play money comes from our business. That’s just a little background on us.

Here is the beginning of the build and how it happened…We bought our second SRT-4 in North Carolina and trailered it back to Wentzville, MO, where we live on January 23, 2008. We took the head off April 20, 2008. We unloaded the car off the trailer and took it around got on it once and it was pushing coolant. It was literally a nightmare. Never once did it do it when we were driving it in NC. So, we went through everything but nothing said it was head gasket…finally took head off and the DCR 5 layer head gasket was seeping from the head lifting on 17psi of boost…we then started project blue sled rebuild. Each part that was on the car slowly started to get sold and replaced with a better one and once you upgrade one thing you know you have to do another. We used our old SRT-4 that our little brother drives now as a temp to how things went and used parts we need, kind of nice.

I will start this thread with the pictures of before the car was taken apart. Pictures of head remove, block, etc.. then engine build, install, wiring, fab work...etc.

pictures coming..
