Default Pissed off at my work, any suggestions?

Long story short, I have been a temp manager, or basically a manager in training for the past couple months. They know at my job that I'm eager to get promoted and take on more responsibilities as well as more money.
I have been told that I am perfect for the job by the old GM, a current front of house manager, and the kitchen manager and he hates almost everyone! (i work at a restaurant BTW)
So I get pulled aside by the kitchen manager today, and he tells me that tomorrow (monday) the GM is going to talk to me and demote me from manager back down to a server because my "personality doesn't fit the position"

Last time I checked, someones opinion doesn't hold much merit and is not a valid reason to demote someone.

There has to be some kind of law against this, he cant just demote me because of an opinion he has. I have never had a write up, never had a verbal warning, and I have been there since the store opened and worked my way up.

Any input or advice on what I can do?

Is your state a will to work state? An anverage of 70% of Americans do not need to be given any reason for termination, the same probably goes for demotion as well as most states have laws that protect employers under the "efficiency" laws regarding employment at will.

Unfortunately for your situation, this is absolutely true. Unless you can claim that you are being biased against for age, sex, religion, race or sexual orientation, they can pretty much do whatever they want since it's employment at-will. Sorry.

Ya, I did a lot of research last night, and thats basically the same answer I kept comming up with.

Turned out it wasnt as bad as I heard. I'm managing less, but serving more. So pay wise it works out to be the same.

I was under the impression you couldn't be demoted without a valid reason, and not just an opinion. Mabye i'm wrong.
