I don't understand why people like the Yamaha's so much, they've consistently been rated as under performers compared to the same sized CBR's and the GSXR's. It seems to me people only buy the R6/1's for the looks.
Whatever the case, I would recommend taking a look at a new GSXR 600. They're very highly rated in every category, especially comfort. I think the GSXR 600 is one of the most comfortable sportbikes I've ever sat on, and I really dislike the riding position of super bikes.
Whatever people tell you though, I would still recommend you try to take a ride on one of each to see which one you feel most comfortable riding (and I don't just mean aesthetics when I say comfort):

Whatever you do, make sure you get Comprehensive coverage if you decide to purchase insurance. I had a customer at GEICO, who did not have Comp, and so when his motorcycle was stolen from outside his hotel, we couldn't help him.
When you purchase your new bike and want a FREE GEICO policy quote, PM me and I'll give you the number to call.
well it was my brother looking for one and i told him he should look into the 250R and well he did and then read a review about it and decided to pick it up as its super cheap a month and a great starter bike for him he didnt need the power of a 600 so he is picking up his brand new Red 2009 250R so he is excited he just wanted a bike he is looking for power or anything so this should be good for him, and as far as insurance he will not switch ins companys i have tried and tried to get him to switch but he likes allstate where as i sont care w.e. is the cheapest lol
Allstate, GEICO, State Farm, whomever...just make sure you have the proper coverage.
i will deff tell him to look into it, not that i think it would happen in are area but thats when it happens is when you least expect it......stupid thievs

I just wanted to respond to this and say it would be wiser for him not to buy a brand new 250. You can buy an older one for pretty damn cheap with low mileage and you're only going to spend 1/2 as much on insurance. Most importantly, after he's ridden the 250 for 3-6 months, he's going to get bored of it REALLY fast, and when he finally wants to sell it he's not going to get much for it.
New riders should never buy a brand new bike, let alone a small displacement bike.
well he loves the bike...and the new 08-09 hold there value WAY better then the old ones do.......but as far as bored with it i rode it for 3 days and im pretty bored of it is so god awful slow but i guess i use to ride a busa i lost the meaning of fast....but its fun to cruise around with my friends take coners and get 50+ mpg where my car got me 15 on this last tank
