Default Any Good Ideas for becoming a stronger swimmer?

Does anyone have any drills or workout routines that can help me become a stronger swimmer? I was born and rasied in the water so its not a question of water confidence but I just need to learn proper technice and get faster. I am training to become a coast guard rescue swimmer so anything to do with swimming or strengthening your lungs would help. Thanks guys

Do you know the proper form for swimming? I was on the swim team...did almost 6 miles a day

The only thing I can say is just do a LOT of free style laps to build up your endurance, obviously plenty of push ups because it's mostly your triceps doing the work.

But form is really the part that's going to make or break you. My friends are stronger and faster than me on land, in water it's almost a joke.

I would recommend that you fin a local swim instructor to help you with proper form. Trust me proper training is worth it's weight in salt.

I agree, a swim coach would be in my mind a great investment especially if its for a job. Kinda think of it as a training course. I was on the swim team as well and i can tell you that form is much more important than strength at first. Once you have the form down pact, work on dry land exercises like push-ups, squats and abs. Flexibility is key in swimming as well in the different strokes. Kicking properly will almost yield you a great advantage but with that, you need strong abs and legs. Hope that helps. In my opinion, checking out websites wont do you much good at first until you have the form down to be able to use advice online. Get a coach that sees what your doing wrong so he can help you steer in the right direction.
