Default Tweeter location?

Looking to get components (thinking PG RSD 6.5s if they will fit in the doors) and anyways I see a lot of people mount the tweeters in the door sail or kick panel. Although I am considering this Im wondering how much crappier it will sound to mount in the stock location and just aim them towards the rear of the car? (they wont be deflecting off the windshield this way)

Any pics of a similar setup?

Thanks

to be honest the stock location sucks its hard to work in and hard to mount them there compared to the door part if you want ill take a pic of them mounted on the door today...plus they sound way better on the door.

yeh and how difficult was the install? as many pics as you can would be great. Im thinking the sails would be better in terms of sound than next to the mids or the kickpanels.

Also where did you mount the crossovers? Door pockets?

for best sound, you should mount the tweeters near the mids. i think the rule of thumb is no more than 12" but i may be wrong. the factory location (dash) is terrible for a set of tweets. it is not hard to mount them into the door panels. i haven't done it to my neon yet due to the weather, but here is a shot of one of my old cars with them mounted to the door panel. just a simple hole (i actually did it with a dremmel).

this is a shot of my other car which came with a much better mounting setup.

as far as the crossover, you can mount it anywhere you like so long as it is protected from the elements (water).

Here you go

The install is way easier to mount them there than to try to fit you're hand in there and trying to mount it... I think it looks good and looks stock if you don't know the car very well just make sure you disconnect the old ones... My crossover i believe was mounted right next to the speaker where the red is.

yeh looks nice and clean. What comps are those? Also this is dumb but the crossover is mounted on the doorframe itself and is not pushed back in the little cubby, right?

I'm running the Diamond Audio Hex comps and mounted them in the stock location. All I did was make a bracket to fit in the stock mounting holes. I tried a few locations to get the best imaging possible and for me it was the stock location. It really wasn't too difficult to get the sound stage that I wanted. It did however take a little more tweaking on the eq due to bouncing the sound off the wind sheild. It all just depends on what your ears tell ya. Just try the tweeter in a few locations and see what ya like best. As far as mounting the crossovers, I made a panel in the back left of the trunk. I'll take some pics later on today and post them up.

first off diamond hex's are amazing.. and i think the stock location sounds great.. ust go -1 or -2 db on the crossover for your tweeter. can make a simple bracket out of a piece of radio back strap took me like 10 min a lot less time then cutting holes in doors.
