Default Rear Speaker Install-How To

Dodge SRT-4 Rear Speaker Install Guide
This is a fairly simple install, but I figured pictures and a guide makes any task easier. The rear speakers are 6’’x9’’ which is great for car filling sound. The speakers I choose are Infinity Kappa 3-ways. These will make a good match for the Infinity Perfect 6.1’s which I bought for the front and are on the way.

We need to remove the rear deck to reach our stock speakers but as you can see there are no externally accessible plastic push pins or screws holding it on.

Step one - Remove the rear seat bottom. Believe it or not there are no bolts or screws holding it on at all. Instead the seats underside is equipped with two metal pins which slide into rubber grommets, as shown here. A firm upward pull at the front of both ends of the seat will pop it out of place. It can then be lifted forward, up and out of the car.

Step two - remove the rear seat back. Note the 4 bolts that require a size 55 torx bit to remove.

They are very tight as they hold on the whole rear seat back assembly, belts and all.

Take note of where the buckle and belt brackets were bolted. Youll want to put those back right where you found them

Lifting the seat back upward and then forward slides out the hooks that are holding the top of the seat in. Note in this pic by removing the seat ive disturbed the white plastic spacers that are in the notches the seat hooks into.

Better put those spacers back.

Step 3 Remove the Rear Deck - The only thing holding the rear deck on now is the plastic clips surrounding where the belts pierce the rear deck. Ease your hand under rear deck toward where the belts pass through it. Then firmly press upward and the clips will unsnap. Then just lift the deck forward and it will slide right out. The belts will still be threaded through it, but thats fine, the deck will still hang nicely out of our way.

Step 3 Unscrew, UnWire and Remove Old Speakers - Only issue here is clearance. The clearance over the furthest screw is very slim. I used thesethe right one is an obvious jerry rig )

Step 4 Put in your fancy new Speakers - The heads on the stock screws wont clear the rim of the Infinity's. This was ok since the screws that come with the Infinitys have the same thread pattern, so they can be used instead.

Step 5 Rebuild interrior. After replacing both speaker, the interrior can be reassembled. Slide the rear deck back and press down firmly on the clips surrounding the belts. It may seem the tweeters on these speakers dont clear the rear deck. They do by a small amount i measured. Be sure to check yours. Replace the rear seatback by hanging it on the two notches and rebolting it and the belt brackets. Then just snap the rear seat bottom back in by positioning it and pressing it down firmly.

Step 6 Wire speakers neatly and mount crossover boxes - I wasnt displaying the crossovers as part of some big layout, so i just wanted them up and out of the way. I used some velcro backing to mount them.

Yep still using the stock deck. I'm trying to keep that clean stock look. As for the sound I cant really give great feedback yet, cause im still waiting on my head unit to arrive. Thier wired into the stock headunit for now. That being said, I can already tell they have far supperior seperation. They give crisp highs and clean defined lows. Ill know better when my Alpine CDA-9835 arrives

*edit* just realised by deck you may have meant the headunit . Silly me, either way I answered your question

i installed speakers in back without pulling the seat at all, was pretty simple, just lifted the panel up slid out seatbelts through slit cuts from factory and slid the back deck down to seat installed speakers and back on.

yeah i knew this was possible. But it had to be a pain in the ass. IMO you risk bending the rear deck among other things. Follow guide, everything comes right out.

Just a follow up to this. Kick ass walk through BTW. Worked out perfect.
I just wanted to add a thing or two if you dont mind.

First ... Crutchfield are jackholes (x 2) A T52 trox driver doesn't exist ... I promise. Don't bother trying to find one. Trust IcoolerthnU .. you need a T55. Do as I say, not as I do

Second ... if you decide to do this with your trunk lid open either have the negative cable disconnected or pull the trunk light out of the mount. You will burn the fucking shit out of your fucking hand. It hurts .... I promise.

Third .... The wiring harness that Crutchfield sells for the 2000+ Neon is not right. It won't fit ... just count on tapping the wires. See below for the wiring diagram.

Left Rear Speaker - brn/yellow + | brn/lt. blue -
Right Rear Speaker - blue/white + | blue/orange -

They are a 60/40 Split, but Even if you fold it down there is still the top part of the seat/headrest area to deal with so removing the seat is a better deal, Takes like 20 more minutes with the install and you don't break anything, (hopefully) Good How-To, I did it last night. Took a total of 45 minutes from start to finish.(Just changed speakers, no head unit yet)
