Default RB1 nav disc problem

For some reason my rb1 began rejecting the nav dvd revently. It would work for just a bit the say there was reading error, eject and check disc. Then it stopped reading it completely. I always kept the disc in there, never put cds in it. I tried a random cd and it did not play but after a cleaning it will play cds. But even after multiple cleanings the nav disc will still not work.

Ideas of something to try? If the discs were not 70 dollars i'd just try another. I made a copy of my original but it did not work as well.

I'm kinda having the same problems lately. It doesn't recognize my nav disc most of the time, but after ejecting it and trying it again, on nearly the 15th time it'll accept it and then the nav will work without any problems, that is of course until I start the car again - at which point I go through the whole process again. I haven't looked at cleaning out the system yet, but perhaps I should. Until the time that this happened, I have never put a disc other than the nav disc in there, and the nav disc is ALWAYS in that drive. Any suggestions to help the two of us?

The laser/eye could have gone out. I used to buy PS2s that had the "Disk Read Error" It would play normal PS games, just not the PS2s and sometimes neither. I replaced the eye and sell them back on ebay. . Anyways, check to see if they sell the laser/eye for that thing and see if you can(or someone else replace it.) That is my educated guess.

yeah, it could be the DVD laser as posted above. DVDs and CDs use different read lasers (DVD is red, CD is infrared) and the red laser could have shuffled off its mortal coil.

If you want a newest version of the disk prepare to pay over $100 even on eBay. You can download a copy of the AE version (torrent file) somewhere on the net. They key to get a burned/copied disk to work is using a specific brand of double layer DVD. Search google for the part number and you shall find info on it on a site called carhack.org or another called cdfreaks.com
