Are the (subwoofer excluded) OEM speakers (dash-doors-rear deck) made of paper driver material?
We extracted the hideous OEM (and very dead) front door speakers from my 99 NEON, made of paper, and they were unbelivable and embarassing. I knew they were'nt' sounding right And the little connector wires are like dental floss. I"ll put polypropolene or polyglass or "goody material" to replace paper OEM in my ACR if that paper just croaks off. Don't tease me, here are the dead speakers and we crammed some WalMart no-name speakers in. Hilarious. ![]()

I had a '91 Cougar years back that had paper drivers that looked that bad or worse. I haven't peeled off the door inserts to check my speakers on the SRT because they don't buzz yet. I've been expecting it for the past 2 years but nothing yet.

Paper is actually a very good material for speaker cones. It has high internal damping and can be treated to control breakup. Unfortunately OE speakers aren't treated for moisture resistance so once they get wet they get fucked.

Paper is often used by high end speaker manufactureres as a driver material. Then the other school of thought goes for glass fiber, carbon fiber, aluminum, polypropolene, combinations etc
With power windows, how do you remove the door panel to replace speakers? |

If it's like other cars I've replaced speakers on, there is a harness clip at the switch array. The Cougar I mentioned had a similar switch panel that could slip through the hole in the door insert so that nothing had to be unplugged.

the exact same way you remove a door panel with manual windows, just one more clip to undo.
