Angry No Sound From Panasonic Head Unit.. Please Help

[b]Hey everyone..

So here is my problem. I bought a Panasonic CQ-DFX983U from someone who had it in their SRT-4. The SRT-4 installation kit was already on it. I have the wiring harness, but no antenna adapter. I attached the harness to the HD and to the car and it turned on, everything seemed to be working. Problem is there no sound, even from CD's. The stereo is not on mute, can not having an antenna adapter lead to no sound? PLEASE HELP!

Without an antenna adapter you'd still get at least some static.

I thought so too, but I don't get static or anything else.. No idea what the problem can be.

Check your ground.
Make sure the mute lead is not connected to ground.

If you don't have the manual for it, look here:

I don't know much about electronics. I know this head unit was in the SRT-4 already, and all the wiring is done. The harness is all connected with black tape around certain wires and all that stuff. Can it still be the ground mute wire or something, i'm not sure exactly what you meant.

check the remote .. does it turns on with no problem(if yes then theres no problem with the ground wiring and the power and continious power) ? ..
check the remote line .. it probably cutted itself .. or somesorta static getting there .. if you have an amp .. check the fuse amp .. if not .. the problem will be in the wiring .. check the stereo fuse also ..
you will have to sit down and try a lot of things ..

I just looked in the manual...it doesn't have a mute lead so nevermind on that.

the antenna MUST be plugged in for panasonic HUs to work... racked my brain all day when installing mine, and it was just as simple as connecting the antenna.

I'm pretty sure you need to antenna adapter in there. As far i know they work like a ground. Maybe it needs it to turn out the internal amp.

If for some reason it does not work the adapter then we can meet up again and i'll take a look at it.

edit: Just like triton said

Thumbs up Works!

Hey everyone.. thanks for all your help.
There used to be an amp in the car and thats what the head unit was plugged into. so it was just the wiring, it works and sounds great!

Thanks again,
arthur
