so I spotted a deal on brand new 10 inch type-R subs and snached em up.
I also nabbed a brand new 4 channel clarion amp (no mono-blocks in stock)
now ive run 2 channels on two subs before and it worked just fine, but on this new amp I bridged the channels properly as per the manual and tested everything else i could possibly test (wiring is all good). One of the bridged channels isnt putting out hardly any juice. one of em is, and the sub that is properly juiced is sounding great. The other one appears to only be getting like 1/8th the power it needs.
Any obvious screwups that would cause a bridged 4 channel amp to underpower one of the bridged channels? Or did I just get a defective amp?
When you bridge you are using The negative from 2 channels and the positive from 2 channels. You may be switching the wiring from 2 to 4ohms therefore giving you less output. A picture of how you have it currently wired might help as well. Enter the information in the following link just to make sure you have it wired correctly. Let me know if you are still having problems.
I thought you said you were running a clarion amp? I would check to make sure that you have it bridged on the side with no sound. Because <100watts will make almost no sound with the Type R (i've hooked a type r up to a less than 100 watt amp before). Actually, 250watts hardly does too, you need to be sending those double that or more. Double check the wiring on the sub itself again, and just quadruple check everything. Believe me, i've missed wires before when I thought I had hooked everything up right.
It is possible to have bad channels right out of the box. So if you are 100% positive that it is wired correctly, then I would send it in for a replacement. Also make sure the gain isn't all the way down!
Your amp may be bad...Reverse the channels going to the speakers.....If the bad one sound good, then its your amp.....If the same sub still sounds weak, then its that sub

When I reverse the channels the defect follows. Im pretty sure it's the amp, but i am still kind of an audio newb. Id figure id be best to ask the experts.

I'm pretty sure it's the amp too if you have those connected like that and the subwoofer connected like the diagram below.
shop tech put the meter on the amps bridged channels. Sure enough one of the channels is only outputting about 1/3 power.
He couldnt believe i had found a defective alpine amp. now i gotta send in for repair.
broken on day 0 and i gotta send in. I should just get my money back for the amp and buy a mono block.

Send it in for repair!!!!!!! Just tell him to give you an exchange....If he refuses, then ask for your money back. Leave the store, come back 5 mins later and buy another one. If he's a prick about it......
They turned screwy on me. They might not even take a return. Ive decided Mr. Mastercard may end up starting an investigation if I don't get my money back. The old guy who runs the shop said the box was banged up (i pulled it from my trash bin so they had a box to ship it in) and said I probably shorted it out. My ass I did.
The car audio guy gets to decide when he gets back. I better hear what i want otherwise there will be hell to pay. This is a small town and bad publicity travels fast.
I bought a v-power 850 mono block from e-bay to replace this one. If I wanted to fuck around like this i would have ordered it online to begin with and paid 30% less than i did. I like to shop locally when i can because the service is usually top notch.
