ok audio guru's, I have a question regarding car audio. I recently purchased an '09 subaru forester as a replacement for my gas sucking jeep (I still have the srt don't worry). Anyway...the stock stereo BLOWS...I mean really bad..the radio sounds like you're listening to it through a pillow. So I went out, got new 2-way speakers all around, which helped things, then I went and got the stock subaru subwoofer, which helped things even more.
Now, when playing a cd, the system sounds very good, very clear. However the radio still sucks. Any ideas what I can do (without changing the head unit, because I want to keep the stock look, among other things) to clear it up? I was looking at sound processors, and equalizers, but I think those have to be used in tandem with an amp, which I don't plan on adding either. The stock stereo must have a terrible preset eq curve or something, and it doesn't let you adjust anything but bass, middle, treble, fade, and balance.
Any ideas?? or am I stuck with it as-is??

Dude I had a subaru before this car, and the stock system did really blow. Just any headunit should do the trick with aftermarket speakers. There are ways to keep the stock subwoofer too. I almost went with the stock sub for my impreza but never got around to it.
hate to say it, but you are pretty much stuck until you decide to replace the factory hu. i don't know what the layout is inside your car but there is always the option of mounting an aftermarket hu somewhere and leaving the stock one in it's place, just not connected to the speakers. maybe a glove box, or (like on the neon - no ch changer) under the radio area?

Nah, its ok, I took the plunge and got a new head unit, will be here tomorrow. Now, can anyone help me figure out the factory pinout??
